Re: 56 225 hp cam needed

The trouble with these data is that I think they are lash point durations (durations work out to 263/270 and if the lobes are symmetrical then the POMLs are 110.5 and 107, so the LSA is only 109.75 ), which nobody but GM ever specfied. If we had SAE J604d data and .050" lifter rise data - either above the base circle or preferably above the tops of the clearance ramp, then Mike might be able to find lobes in the Crane library that are close.

Mike - what's the idle behavior of this engine: idle speed in neutral @ manifold vacuum? (I assume it's a manual trans.)

Re: 56 225 hp cam needed

the SAE specs list the duration at 264/266,overlap at 45 degrees with lash at .008/.018. i ran this cam in my new 55 chevy power pack back in the mid 50s along with dual 4 barrel carbs because i could not afford a corvette so i just put the corvette engine parts in the 55.The trouble with these data is that I think they are lash point durations (durations work out to 263/270 and if the lobes are symmetrical then the POMLs are 110.5 and 107, so the LSA is only 109.75 ), which nobody but GM ever specfied. Duke below is the tool i used to change the valve springs that came with the cam. it fit over the rocker stud and you used a nut on the stud to compress the spring with air in the cylinder to hold the valve closed

this cam was used with a PG transmission in 56 corvetteThe trouble with these data is that I think they are lash point durations (durations work out to 263/270 and if the lobes are symmetrical then the POMLs are 110.5 and 107, so the LSA is only 109.75 ), which nobody but GM ever specfied. Re: 56 225 hp cam needed

Check with Thunderchicken, I believe all their camshafts are CNC machined & index from a NOS camshafts, so it should be the real deal. Recommend confirmation through Cam Doctor. The trouble with these data is that I think they are lash point durations (durations work out to 263/270 and if the lobes are symmetrical then the POMLs are 110.5 and 107, so the LSA is only 109.75 ), which nobody but GM ever specfied. Re: 56 225 hp cam needed

i have purchased camshafts from ebay vendor "chevyssbest". buy it now price was $60.00. it is a solid lifter camshaft, part #3711354 casting #3711355 known as the 355 hi lift. solid lifter cam with 264 int. dur. 266 ex. dur. .404 int lift and .413 ex lift. Valve lash .012 int .018 ex. Cam has notch in rear journal. vendor mentioned he been doing this for 35 plus years and could duplicate any 50's or 60's chevy camshaft.- Top

Re: 56 225 hp cam needed

duke: the 55 and 56 265's ran solid lifter cam, 3711354. the engine, in stock config , should idle at 600-1000 rpm in neutral(the 56 i'm doing is a 3 speed.). thi8s cam was also uised in the 56 pass cars with 2 x 4 carbs. mikeThe trouble with these data is that I think they are lash point durations (durations work out to 263/270 and if the lobes are symmetrical then the POMLs are 110.5 and 107, so the LSA is only 109.75 ), which nobody but GM ever specfied. Re: 56 225 hp cam needed

Duke, decided to go with the thunderchicken cam for my 270 hp instead of the GM Duntoff nos cam I have, I found no problems, miked it along side with original "almost" exact duplicate for my 270 hp instead of the GM Duntoff nos cam I have, I found no problems, miked it along side with original "almost" exact duplicate Mike , hope this helps as a option for you.
