    Re: Corvette Restorer "Restification article"

I don't find the article out of place. Here's why: I personally know the owner of the '69 convertible and author of the article. He is a retired engineer by trade, a Corvette lover, and he looks for challenges. The '69 was basically on the cusp of parting out or doing what he is doing. To his credit a few years ago he took on a badly burned 1970 Corvette LS-5 coupe and restored it to Top Flight. He bought the '70 sight unseen except for photos and when the car transport arrived at his home with the car he was shocked at the extent of damage but he took on the task of restoring it and he was rewarded for it. He also wrote an article on that restoration that was published in the Corvette Restorer.

While I consider myself a purist and encourage restoration I see no problem with his latest endeavor as he is already a "been there, done that" Corvette owner. To many NCRS members this is an interesting project albeit that is is not a restoration. I mean, I have seen some Corvettes at NCRS events so over-restored that they take on a reproduction look.

He also owns nice Z06. According to him there will be a Part II follow-up article. I'm looking forward to reading that article and others in the Corvette Restorer.

      Re: Corvette Restorer "Restification article"

Vinnie does a great job on The Corvette Restorer. He seems to capture an audience that has different year (c1, c2, etc) interests.

A special interest article as discussed here was very well done and captures the interest. After all it is still a Corvette. Almost everyone that drives their car does some type of modification. Be it a cup holder, camshaft up grade, carburetor, over restoration, or base clear paint. We all do something.

Just enjoy the Restorer and be happy we have such a good magazine. The only other club magazine that is in this league is the AACA and they have been at it a lot longer.

I agree and that is why the article should not have appeared in The Restorer. Part II can be expected to be equally inappropriate.

Back to Rich's original post , he along with most of us on this TDB read the Restorer and read this forum to learn how to solve problems we are having with our cars , and to take up print space in the Restorer to do a article such as this one is a disapointment to some of us . I read Hot Rod every month and enjoy the articles in there and thats where this story belongs .

I agree with Michael if you want to do stories such as this change the name of the Restorer . JMO

I agree with most on here. This is the NCRS not the NCMODS. I thought that this is what this club was about. As was posted before there are many other places to find info. about resto Corvettes. CF has alot of info & picts. I love to see a well done mod. Corvette but that is the way that we all found them in the day with flares, wild paint, roll & tuck int. ETC. We took these cars & put them back to original & that is what NCRS was all about. Are we going to give up the the reason this club was founded because it will bring in more members? For those that remember BG had a class for MOD Corvettes & some were upset that they quit judging them. I guess what go's around comes around. We Didn't RESTORE Corvettes because they would be worth a lot of money. NOT But because we all tore the old cars up in the day & now appreciate what great American cars were made in the USA that came out of the American auto plants.
I rant from a old man. LOL KEN

Vinnie does a great job, is very creative, and trys to serve the membership. Don't crucify him over one article that reflects the wishes of one segment of our membership. That segment has felt left out for years.
Again, sure I would! I have 'customized every vehicle I own! (the vette being the exception) I do agree, I think Vinnie does and outstanding job on the 'Restorer'. Generally I appreciate stock corvettes, but am open minded enough to appreciate all (almost all) vettes. Just believe THIS magazine should focus on the stock ones.

Here's a thought to all you purists that didn't like the article in the restorer cause it should ONLY be about restoration. THIS is a technical discussion board, so why are you ranting about a magazine article. I see no difference! Unless you have written articles to contribute or would like to step up and take over Vinnie's job why don't you cut him a little slack. I'm sure if you submitted a restoration article he would be glad to print it. Just this old man's two cents

                  Re: Corvette Restorer "Restification article"

Although I am now a puriest I grew up with Hot Rods and Customs cars. Not bragging but when the phone rings I can talk the language of the caller.
Personally I found the 69 article refreshing. Another thought I had was Vinnie sure had a ton of technical articles in his/our fine publication.
Meanwhile if you want more restoration articles one way to pull that off is to write them for your chapter and Vinnie will consider publishing.
How many of you write articles for your chapter?
Keep up the great work Vinnie. You certainly have found your nitch in life my friend. What would we do without you. Same goes for our Pittsburgh chapter newsletter. What would we do without Mary Lou Colussy? Thanks Mary Lou.
JD. Chairman of Pittsburgh Tri-State Chapter. And yes I am bragging as I love the job. What a great bunch of members we have.

Come on folks, some of our cars should be driven. I always enjoy the thumbs up from the 16 years olds. Oh, our future car buyers. Hopelfully, they will not have wait to long as long as I have to buy their dream car. Thanks for listening.

Vinnie you are doing a fantastic job. Please keep up the good work

IMO it would be awfull boring to me to read only "brag" articles about the paper trail on someone's car.

I complement Carl for taking the time to write the article for any and all to enjoy. BTW you can always skip over any article you don't care to read about as I do with Roy's judging comments

                        Re: Corvette Restorer "Restification article"

Having been a member of the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) for many years and owning a couple of Shelbys between Corvette ownership, I find the publications by NCRS to be top rate and on a more frequent basis than SAAC. I also believe the articles in the Restorer to be better edited than other clubs I have belonged to over the years. I enjoyed the "restored" article and have done my share of that in the past. Now I'm on the restoration road in my old age and am having a gas of a time with the wealth of info on the Internet. I for one appreciate the efforts of this group and hope to participate for a long time. Thank you NCRS.

To your first point, there was a big push to have a off topic forum on here but we got now where with the powers that be. Please read the posts. Second I agree that most of us do not take the time to write a article, some because they don't have time or many like me are not computer savvy. I dint have clue how to post picts & can't type. I can't see the restorer having a article showing taking a stock midyear & showing how to cut fender wells, installing flares, custom int.& glassed in headlights. There are different clubs for racing, autocrosing, hot roding ETC. This site & NCRS was founded by people that wanted to have a club that
                          is about restoring Corvettes.
For those that get it no explanation is needed. For those that don't none is possable.
