    Corvette Restorer "Restification article"

Let me start by saying the article in the latest 'Restorer' magazine about installing a late model engine in a '69 was interesting, it seemed out of place. I have the utmost respect for anyone who tackles such a project. In fact I'd like to myself! However when the Corvette Restorer only comes out 4 times a year, I guess I was disappointed to see space taken up this way. I can see these stories in several of the non NCRS publications.I'm sure I'll get hammered for this viewpoint, but I really mean no disrespect to ANYONE. Just can never get enough of the great RESTORATION articles I've learned from this magazine. I mean that battery article alone, incredible!

Rich, back in the 70's we HUNGERED for ANY help with these great cars! Same today, since we have newer members who feel they don't want to be less informed than the 'old guys'. See your point!

I agree Rich. I have seen two mid years, one a top flight car turned into resto mods in the last couple of years. The other one a split window. We are suppose to be a restoration and preservation organization.

          Rich, et al,

Part of this was taken from a thread last week to answer comments about the article...I've added more and hope you understand my reasoning...

If my copy of the restorer ever arrives, I'll read that article, then maybe offer an opinion pro or con.
I'll keep checking my mail box..............

Personally I felt disappointed, when I first saw this article. I thought of all the other forums, and magazines that offer this information. Don't get me wrong, I'm just looking for the Restoration, Preservation, and History of the Corvette, when I open the Restorer.

Vinnie, We had a number of NOT TOTALLY STOCK Corvettes on the 2011 RT. We also had some previous Duntov Award winners. We like to build them and drive them.
San Diego here we come. Enjoy your Corvette like Zora intended.

The current issue of The Corvette Restorer is heavy on technical articles, which is great, and I was surprised to see the LS-swap article, but found it interesting.

What surprised me is how much work it is to do the swap. That may discourage others from going down this path.

Vinnie, I agree with Scott, some of us like to build them and drive them. Not every Corvette is a trailer queen. Having both I enjoyed putting 6200 miles on my 383, 5 speed 62 last summer more than towing the trailer queen to shows. Keep up the good work.

                      Re: Corvette Restorer "Restification article"

Vinnie works hard to please and include articles that interest "ALL" NCRS members. Understand NCRS is about preservation and restoration.

However, a one off article about an engine swap doesn't change NCRS's philosophy.

It does show how mechanically and technically talented some of the NCRS members are.

Vinnie always has an opening for competent technical articles.

IMHO contribute articles don't criticize a non preservation or non restoration article that constitutes 1% of all Restorer Articles published.

Vinnie is a great editor and NCRS is lucky to have him. Million to one improvement over his predecessor.

                        Terry,
I enjoyed your comment. I do the same, truck and trailer for the princes and the the road for the driver. My driver '65 is at 3 grand at 70 mph. When I drive the '65 I want to go fast (70 or better). This staying under 65 is no good. So your 5 speed having OD is a good modification so ya can "move along" with taxing the engine (also saves gas).

After all what good is a Corvette if ya have to putt putt along.

So some "modification" are necessary if ya wana enjoy the old cars in todays environment without beating them up.

Well, I don't guess you would like what I have done to some cars over the years. A '61 with a 358 in, tunnel ram, Crane roller cam, Vertex mag, 6 tail lights, etc. We enjoy our cars in different ways, I have had a Duntov/Bloomington Gold car, a couple of Top Flight cars, but I have enjoyed my "play toys" just as much.

Vinnie does a great job, is very creative, and trys to serve the membership. Don't crucify him over one article that reflects the wishes of one segment of our membership. That segment has felt left out for years.

The organization is a Restorer's society. The publication is the Restorer Magazine. An LS swap into a C3 does not meet the definition of "restoration".

                              Vinnie,

I enjoyed LS article. I find the RESTORER magazine and articles to be first rate. "Restoration" is only one part of the NCRS mission statement along with preservation, history, and enjoyment. Hate to see any top-flight car get irreversible mods. But trailer queens are not the only way to preserve and enjoy our Corvettes.
