Yet another door question

Okay,

The AIM doesn't call out any type of caulk or sealant on the door handle back plate (mounted inside the door). However, both of mine had some type of black sealant around the push button side (between the plate and the fiberglass) - I'm not talking about the gasket on the outside between the handle and the door.

Is that the work of a prior owner or was that factory? If factory, what was it?

Bob, the only problem I see with sealant around the push button,Is if the sealant get into the push button rod it may cause the button to stick.maybe a little chaulk around the bolts that mount the handle

The sealer your referring to was likely used to hold the plate in place while the bolts were installed. I've seen it on some and not on others. Probably a line workers short cut. 3M strip caulk (dum-dum) works well.
