I recently looked at a 1968 327/300 that has a correctly dated Carter Quadrajet carburetor. However, the owner protect-o-plate has the "R" designation for a Rochester carb. We know that Carter made the Quadrajet for several years because GM, for whatever reason, wanted additional capacity to supply the Quadrajet.
Question is; should the POP show a designation of "C" if the original carb was a Carter built Quadrajet or would it continue to show the "R" since the Carter was additional production (even used the same number system as the Rochester) for the Rochester Quadrajet? Does the "R" designation indicate a Quadrajet carb regardless if made by Rochester or Carter?
Appreciate your sharing of experience on this subject.
