the car is 12551 so that puts it somewhere late june. i guess if production stops sometime in july this is a fairly late car.
Now that my trans has beem restored the WL is gone. should i try to put it back?
Yes, Mike it is fairly late as 1970 production goes. Production ran almost to the end of July IIRC.

Should you put it back? -- depends on what you want to do with the car. If you eventually intend to have it judged put it back. If not, don't worry about it. If on the other hand it bugs you, and you just can't forget it, give yourself some peace and take care of it. It all depends on how you are wired, and only you can answer that. Whatever you do only you and the car will know. Judges don't generally look for that code because it is sometimes on top and no one can see it. Mine is on top, but only I know it.

i want to tripple crown the 70 LT-1 so i will put it back. i built the 72 LT-1 to drive so i would not worry on that car. i have un-bubbaed lots of stuff on the 72 but could do a lot more. the 70 i want to be perfect is such a thing exsists.

BTW: Mike now that you dragged this topic into 1970. Early 1970 LT1s do not have that overspray on the bellhousing. The back of the engine was not sprayed, but painted orange by hand. How early is early? All of January production for sure, after that we will have to do some research.
Jan 70. I know the engine had been rebuilt but I would be surprised if they caused this overspray at that time.

Keith, what is the assembly date of your engine? My V0114CTU was brush painted by hand.

Interesting. Not what I would have expected.

I guess it's POSSIBLE that the engine was painted when it was "freshened up" (70s) and is a coinsidence that it appears like some factory oversprayed ones do. I also found overspray on the valve springs and the original fuel pump. But I assumed that to a be from a engine compartment 70s style detailing. Of coarse that would not be the case for the bell houseing. Unless all of it was done out of the car. But then why not paiint before putting things on the engine. The valve covers were not on when it was done.
Any other 0105CTUs with original overspray or lack of overspray?

Orange paint on the valve springs of LT1 engines is not uncommon. It would seem there was a number of engines that were painted without the "travel covers" in place. Fuel pumps, however, were installed at St Louis and we are told St Louis never had any orange paint. So over spray on the fuel pump has to be Bubba.
