    Another 1966 L-72 3864480 Pulley question

    Hello,

I have read all the archived pulley threads until I am cross eyed but..

Since an original 3864480 pulley cannot be bought for reasonable sums of money, will the 2 groove Hi-Per SB pulley 3770245 be a interchange on a no power 1966 L-72?

The dimensions between the two appear very similar. I dont really care about installed belt lengths, but I have a nice 245 pulley, and I dont really want to take the car apart to find out it wont work!

    Any help would be appreciated.

The 3770245 might work but I greatly doubt it. The 3770245 was a small block pulley and, while it has the same flange pattern as the 3864480, the rest of the pulley is differently configured.

The GM #3864480 was discontinued in December, 1966 and replaced by the GM #3906656, the 1967 big block pulley. Unfortunately, the 3906656 was discontinued quite some time ago and can be extremely difficult to find, too. However, I think it's reproduced.

Thanks for the feedback Joe and Keith,

I had seen the reproduction, just thought I might could run the 0245 pulley since I had it on hand. It so very close to the 4480 dimensions, same diameter +-1/16, same offset, I am tempted to bolt it up and just see if it works!

But then if it chucks the belts...I might not be so happy.
        Thanks
        Glenn

I would check to see if the pulley grooves line up the same relative to the flange mating surface.
