Re: Rarest of the rare on auction
It's theoretically possible that some very early LS-6 engines could have been built with chrome valve covers. Certainly, some early 1971 LS-5 were. However, I don't know if any documented early LS-6 have ever been found with chrome valve covers.
In the case of this car, though, I would say that its May, 1971 build date would rule out even that possibility. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Rarest of the rare on auction
When I was about to actually go look at these cars, I posted here and had some requests for photos of certain areas. That's why there are some perculiar shots. Did the best I could, not the greatest pics I guess.
As far as you question, The front bar is the thicker variety.(Not sure that dimension at the moment). The rear bar, as far as I know, are all the same size.- Top

Re: Rarest of the rare on auction
I looked at this car very closely many years ago when it was for sale at the first Pheasant Run Bloomington Gold event. I was the high bidder on the car, but the reserve was twice my high bid. This car was quite modified from factory stock. The suspension had been altered, the cylinder case had been decked and it was missing several engine compartment mechanical items. It did however have the original Corvette Order Copy. My bid was 200K then, but the reserve was 400K. It is a nice rare optioned Corvette, but it is not completely original.- Top

Re: Rarest of the rare on auction
The green conv. that proteam bought at Monterey last year was sold to an Indiana collector. PT paid 440 for it and I'll bet they made a profit so it gives you an idea of current pricing. I think the green car is a better car though. My guess is the 375 for the orange car.
Is this the green conv ? I took pic at Monterey 1987.
