    Plastic Drive Gear

I dropped the plastic drive gear into the tail shaft of the transmission while replacing my speedometer cable yesterday. I decided to call it quits for the day. Is there any why of fishing it out or do I need to pull the transmission?
Another thought is to leave it there, but would it cause a problem with the transmission?

    Tom,

I believe you dropped the plastic driven gear into the tail housing. Should not be a problem.

Tom, The problem I see is if the car is a T-10 ,when the car is put into reverse the plastic gear will be chewed up. The reverse idler and rev gear are right there once it rolls down the housing.

Maybe these will help. This is a Muncie M-20 I just rebuilt but the T10 is similar.

Here is the tail coming off & the main shaft, there not a lot of parts in the tail but could get caught up in the rev gear.

This is looking into the tail, I'm installing the rev ball & spring but you can see what it looks like.

          Gary:

Thanks for the pictures. In looking into the tail shaft I have a good idea where the plastic drive gear is sitting. I just stopped at NAPA and picked up a flexible
retracting tool. Will give that a try before I pull out the transmission.
