    57 speedo gear

When I purchased this car to restore I was told the 3 speed gearbox was rebuilt and just needed a gear to drive the speedometer. I purchased a new plastic gear that came with a short spring, washer and cotter pin. Unfortunately I do not have a blow up diagram of the xmission, but I am hoping that the gear just slides in and the spring-washer-cotter pin were not meant for this xmission???
Please tell me this is so...

    Thanks
    Ken

      Ken,
The speedo gear just slides in.
No springs, cotter pin or washer.

The DRIVEN gear does install just as has been described. However, for it to work properly it has to be a gear that's compatible with the DRIVE gear already installed in the transmission. Not all available nylon gears are necessarily compatible.

Do you have the fitting that holds the speedo gear?

              thanks all

Hi Ray, yes the fitting is there along with the securing plate and screw.

Hope I was sold a compatible gear, it came from Grossmueller's

Think you are good to go. You did not mention what color or tooth count gear you purchased, hopefully it will mesh correctly with the drive gear inside the trans and is also correct for your rear axle ratio.
