    Re: Battery shutoff swithches

There is a clamp-on ammeter that can be used to do this kind of measurement. Unfortunately I am all ready packed and on the first 37 miles of the trip to London -- or I would have packed my clamp-on ammeter and do some testing. I don't have access to a C1 to answer the specific question posed. I could offer guesses, but it might be interesting to do some actual testing to get the real answers. A nice high compression mid year or early C3 big block would be interesting numbers to see as well. I suspect some might be surprised at the numbers.

Here's what it looks like on my '59.

Also included is my latest battle scar from my arm touching the choke pipe when I opened the switch the other night after a cruise.

Ok one more thing I thought of that there's no protection for........the solenoid feed wire from the ignition switch while cranking.

If you have a dead short in the purple feed wire heading to the solenoid, like I did on our '63 once, it is not pretty to see the ammeter peg left. The feed wire that bubba put in for a makeshift neutral safety switch got caught up in the emergency brake mechanism shaft.

p.s. Ok I'll stop posting now...... I'm just procrastinating getting back to bodywork. I hate bodywork, I really do........

It's not really that bad. It looks worse than it is.

              Rich,

Glad I was able to help! Sorry about the fiberglas dust on your keyboard. You can blame me if you like!
