    Cleaning White Wall

I read the post a few weeks back regarding getting yellow out of white walls.
I'm probably dating myself, but back in the sixty's there was a product that was a paste that did a great job. Can anyone remember the name of the product?

Tom, I can't recall the product name now but Mobil sold one like it under the Mobil name. I used both a couple of times and then mixed baking soda and toothpaste with similiar results, then went the easy route with Wesley's.

Steve, Thanks for your input, I'm sure that the product manufacturer is long gone. You just don't see too many wide white walls running on the road these days.

I used the Westley's Bleche White on my new tires for the first time last week. It worked great but the water running off was pretty milky white. I hope that was only because it was the first time

I used to use a SOS pad from my Mom's kitchen back in the day.
Now I use Westley's Bleche White and scrub it with a Scotch-Brite pad on a plastic handle, like the kind for scrubbing a BBQ grill.

In the early sixties I bought my first & only convertable a 57 olds 98, upon buying the car I had a new white top - at the same time I was working for a auto parts dist.. One of the product lines we stocked was Swaco WW cleaner available in a liquid or paste. I always wanted that top as clean as I could get it and at the same time I did not want to stain my paint - so I started to use Swaco Paste to do the top, started to just spray light coat of water on the top plus a heavy coat of water on the car in case some got on the car. I would put the paste on the top, use a soft brush and do the entire top at one time and then wash the whole thing off. The product did a great job on the top and my tires. I left the job, sold the car and could not find Swaco anymore. It was a light green paste, don't know if that's the product you are talking about.

Edward Styczynski came up with the name of the white wall cleaner that I was trying to remember, SWACO. It was a great product and probably manufactured somewhere in the Northeast at the time. I had a "61" Impala with wide white walls and the paste did the very best job of getting them white. I did check the Internet, but could not come up with anything.

Ed, thanks for coming up with the name.

Simple Green and a good nylon soft brush... does not yellow, does not dry them out, may require a little more effort.

Swaco I think that was made by another company a few years ago, I think Gaurdsman Products...

Coker Tire makes a Wide White cleaner... supposed to not harm them...

I think the Bleach is what yellows them over time? But Wesleys has been around forever... I have seen the old schoold tricks Gas, K1 and others from time to time, Brillo, SOS, 409, Fantastik, WINDEX, bulk engine degrease and a steam cleaner... Guess it one of those things that works best for ya. I don't think todays whitewalls are made like years past, are the retro repros just as good?, the new ones seem to scratch easier and dry out faster if one uses a good old whitewall brass bruss and cleaner.
