sliding trim!

i have had a problem with the
bottom cove trim that is in front of my driver's door.
it is pushed forward when i open the door!
i've tried to adjust things
but have found that it's better
is i just leave it pushed forward 1cm
ooops, this is america..i meant 3/8"
of course, the piece will stick out a little bit
into the wheel well.
has anyone else had this problem?

Dave,

as you open the door carfully watch to see what is doing it. Most likely it is the inside edge of the door. As you open the door the edge pushes the moulding forward. If it is that you may be able to shave the edge at an angle. Doing it this way will still maintain your door gap but give you added clearance as you open the door. Let me know if thats what it is. One other thing comes to mind is the weather strip. It also could do this if it is sticking out too far. If it's the weather strip see if you can reposition it or trim it.

Dave,

if you look at the picture you posted the trim is behind the edge of the door so I doubt it is the trim making contact. But anything is possible.

David, I had that problem years ago on the '57, but I am not certain it was the same cause as yours. My trim was not tight against the body due to the moulding clip being loose. I realigned the clip in the backsid eof the moulding, tightened it, and problem solved. Make certain you have the correct clips so the trim is tight against the body.

David, It also looks like your gap is too tight at the bottom. I would check the hinges for too much play. You may want to just adjust the hinges, provided the outer end of the door isn't too close to the rear jamb.
