    1968 Tri-Power

Can anyone recommend a test or series of tests that can be used to determine if a tri-power set up should be rebuilt? This one was done about 5 years ago, there are no issues that are readily apparent (no leaks etc). The only issues I can see is that car runs a bit rough until it has warmed up. Does anyone have any thoughts on the ideal secondary spring weight / color to use? Is there any way to get a more progressive feeling out of the Holley tri-power set up ( 4 speed / 4.11 rear)?
    Tuning tips etc?

Thanks in advance for the help

    Noel,

over the years I did 4 L-89's a 69 15 years ago, a red 68 10 years ago a 67 (clone) and am doing another 69 right now. All 4 are 4:11 4 speeds. And if you can't fry the tires through the first 3 gears it's not running up to potential. The gold car I did 15 years a go was scary fast on the first 2 run through the gears then once it hit 200 degrees it lost 30-40 hp. The 68 was not quite as scary fast but did not lose power when it was at temp. Each car will have it's own personality.
I would see if the distributor has the right set up and curve. And as far as the secondary springs. I would suggest getting a complete set and switch to 1 level lighter spring at a time to see when you can feel the difference.

It might go without say, but as you try different springs, you will have to drive the car to put the end carbs under load-2000K + rpm (not sure of rpm) for the vacuum to kick in. The goal is to have a smooth transition in power increase when they do come online, not a jolt in the pants.
