For the last month i had to listen to my friend go on and on about this 68 roadster in caledonia wi (near milwaukee) the classic car dealer there told my friend that this car is completely original with the exception for the jack and radiator, owned by a ncrs lead judge and a survivor candidate , perfect frame and original spare, so last week we rented a trailor , my friend had put 1000.00 down on the car so the deal was set we drove 300 miles to get this car, we get there start looking at the car and the first thing i notice is the drivers jamb area where the 1/4 trim panel is supposed to be the glass in the jamb is missing, the door itself was off of a black car and the whole car was repainted with thick enamel paint , car was blue on blue, next i looked at the spare tire , radial newer tire , then i looked at the frame just ahead of the rear tires , rusty you could have pushed a screwdriver through the frame, the crossmember under the center of the drivers door had about 6-8 big welds on it and smashed, so i looked now like this car took a broadside hit to the drivers door, and on and on, so the deal was off, my friend asked for his 1000.00 dollars back and the guy wanted to keep 4%, you can imagine how that went over. we wasted our entire day 150 in gas 60 for the trailor, my friend had asked the seller to be honest with him so we wouldn't waste the money and time if the car wasn't what he said it is. he assured him it was everything he and the ad said it was.

"What would you do if this happend to you"
Chalk it up to "life experience."
Had a similar episode several years ago, drove from western MI to central NY going after a car that turned out to be far rustier than I was led to believe. This after paying for trailer rental and a trailer brake hookup on my truck, then a night in the hotel in NY... The good thing is I got to spend time with my Dad and a former college roommate, and saw some gorgeous scenery that I liked enough I later brought my family out there for vacation.
You can't get too many photos ahead of time.

This one?
And you're saying that a used car dealer hyped the car to make it sound better than it actually was? Naw..............
Your friend should thank you for your services rendered. He got off cheap.- Top

Re: What would you do if this happend to you
Glad you walked away..that had to be a total let down..I am new to the NCRS but not new to cars..really the NCRS is seen as you can't do this or that group to alot of people.. but one thing is known that if people are held to the book then things should be right..the perception is the car is perfect..I have never met a used car salesmen that was truly honest..pictures help but if someone claims that a top judge owned the car then the name should be given to you as to back up the claim..we do take pride in our cars and I think that's really what the NCRS is about..if a name can't be had don't waste your time or don't get your hopes up..the used car salesmens moto is there is an ass for every seat..not fun being one..at least you talked him out of it..- Top

whether it's
WW II jeeps
classic mustangs
or vettes
my rule is very simple;
i MUST be the one that looks at the vehicle.
i don't trust anyone else,
not even a NCRS judge!
no one will have my best interests in mind but me!

I've looked at several cars for others, sometimes for an owner who is interested in "what do I really have" but more often for a prospective buyer, Seen VERY few that were sufficiently good enough to merit a trip from the prospective buyer....Bill Clupper #618- Top

Brian I agree..but in some states its perfectly legal..but it must be signed by the buyer..an agreement..then it can be up to 25%! I dought this paperwork happened so he should get his money back without a fight..- Top
