Mine are chrome plated. I trust you are referring to the front latches, but even the back deck hardware is chrome as well.

Stu, I Should have specified exactly what pieces I was talking about, I was referring to the under side of the deck lid that releases it to open, The handle and latch mechanisms are painted on mine. Was this a done from the factory or when someone painted the car previous.

Ed - maybe a little confusing Ref Sec 1.00 sheet C7.00 (that' the 64 AIM)

latches- the small latch (lock asm) on the front side of deck when closed one can not see them. they hit a chrome section of metal to force them closed. #4 pn 3797331 On 64 they are painted.

release handle- at front center underside (control asm), used to open the deck, #13 pn 3823148 On 64 they are painted.

NOW you will need to confirm what was done for 63, early late or ....???
You 63 guys have things tougher then most C2.

The lever, cables and latches on the underside of rear deck lid were in place when the car was painted at the factory.

I agree with that Ken at least for the later cars, but for early ones, they definitely were not painted. I have worked on several. At least into the 360 ish range there was no paint on the under mechanisms. I dont know when the change in proceedure occured.

Now that we know what latches we're talking about, I can confirm that all my under deck hardware is painted body color. Mine is an early July build.

Great info guys, I can now confirm that my March car has painted hardware, my car has had a couple of re-paints so I just wanted to be sure that this was correct.

Wayne, I just looked at a 63 vin. no. 2127 and its around a Oct. built car and it has unpainted latches and cables and release handle. Wow- learned another anomaly about the 63 cars. so many of them.
