    Scott,

they are just like I described except they are coarse thread instad of fine thread. Those would work for the battery tray. This is very interesting.... 65 was the last year for the fine thread brake/fuel line bolts (same as the spare tire tub mount bolts) in 66 they changed to coares thread bolts exceactly like yours but shorter. I would look to see if the AIM pt# changed from 65-66 or 67 for the A/C battery tray bolts.
The p washer you refer to is as you guessed a flat parts washer in this case it is extra wide and thick.

So check the threads that were cut into your frame for the battery tray to see if they are coarse or fine. If coarse they were factory installed bolts. Or yours is an anomally???? Cool stuff!!!

Thanks Rich, this information about the special wide/thick washer (hard to tell that from the AIM!), and then looking at Ron's picture above again, reminded me of another mystery bolt that I had in a different bag. It's just like the bolts in post #15 above, except I thought it had a large integral washer. A month or two ago, I realized the washer was not integral but frozen to the underside of the bolt-head with rust.

            Rich,

An update to this thread. I checked the AIMs, and here's what they show:

            1. Brake Line bolts:
The brake line bolts were GM 9420825 for 1965 through 1968, changing to GM 3958062 in the 1969 AIM. My brake line clip bolts (1967) were all 5/16-24 x 1/2" (no headmark), not 5/16-18 x 1/2". There seems to be confusion on this particular bolt, depending on which archive Thread you read, probably because the P&As contradict what people report finding on their cars. If I remember correctly, Ron said his were the same as mine (5/16-24 thread) on his '66.

            2. Fuel Line bolts:
The fuel line bolts were GM 9420825 for 1965 through 1968, again changing to GM 3958062 in the 1969 AIM. My fuel line clip bolts (1967) were all 5/16-24 x 1/2" (no headmark), not 5/16-18 x 1/2".

FWIW, I haven’t found the GM 3958062 in the GM parts books, but AMK shows it as an indented hex washer face bolt, flat tip/cut tip, grade 2 with Anchor headmark, with the dimensions 5/16-18 x 9/16”.

            3. Tire Tub bolts:
The tire tub bolts were GM 9420825 for 1965 through at least 1970, the last year for which I have AIM info. Again, my tire tub bolts (1967) were all 5/16-24 x 1/2" (no headmark), not 5/16-18 x 1/2".

I don't know what they actually did on the assembly line, the above is just what the AIMs say. All of my 9420825 bolts were 5/16-24 x 1/2", no headmark, indented hex. The indented hex is deep, like the known originals posted previously here on the TDB.

Beginning in 1965, the P&A's say they should be 5/16-18 x 9/16", type "C" point (flat tip, tapered at the end), "Phos. Ctd.", in Group 8.977. It seems that they got the TPI and length wrong in the books in the 1965 publication, and kept repeating the error straight through the 1969 publication, at which point it disappears (not listed in 1970 30B). I don't find it again until 1983 where it is once again shown with the incorrect (for 65-67) dimension of 5/16-18 x 9/16", but this may be the correct dimension for GM 3958062, for 1969+ brake and fuel line bolts?

According to the AIMs, the C60 battery tray bolts were the same for 1965 through 1967, being GM 9422606.

I checked the frame holes for the C60 battery tray bolts, and they are 5/16-18 (coarse) thread.

I checked the frame holes for the brake line, fuel line and tire tub bolts, and they were all 5/16-24 thread. None of the holes were wallowed out, they look like the bolts were never removed previously.

Edit: I don't know why it separated your first quote like it did, I tried to correct it several times, but tonight it's going to post it the way vBulletin wants to do it
