    72 rocker molding attach

I just purchased a restored set of rocker moldings with lower attach tabs for my 72. To my surprise, my fender tabs for the u nuts are about 5 inches rearward from the tab location on the moldings. I beleive the car to have original fenders. Were there two tab design locations? Has anyone seen this situation? Thanks

The tabs on my 73's are 1" back from fender edge (both rocker and fender).

Hank, I believe that the rocker panels were the same for quite a few years 70-77? so I would think locations were the same, The fenders for 70-72 were the same, There may be two holes molded in the fender, you may be missing the front ones, it may be possible that maybe someone mounted side exhaust at some point and had to remove the front tabs. This about all I can think of why there not there. I can look later tonight when I get home from work at my 72 and see if there is two sets of tabs.

Thanks Edward. If there are 2 tabs on fender, then my front ones, for whatever reason are no longer there.

My 73 with original fenders has two tabs, one at 1 inch back and the other back about 8 inches( I didn't measure the back distance). Only the front tab is used.

Hank, My 72 does have two sets of holes, one front and one rearward about 5 or 6 inchs from the front ones.

I can tell you that you maybe able to use the rear tabs and remount them forward, Just use a dremel tool with the cut off blade and then attach the tabs to the rocker first to get an idea of the area you'll need to attach, then maybe some fiberglass mat and use some Sems two part epoxy, which has some real good bonding abilility, the only down side to Sems its black in color. So use the fiberglass mat and expoxy on the rear side of fender only.

It depends on how precise the factory drilled the holes in the lower body as to whether the front rocker moulding tab will line up exactly with the front fiberglass tab slot of the body. On original unrestored or un-refurbished cars you can visually see the rocker mouldings don't always line up well front to back sometimes.

Here's how it should look - these pictures are from a very low mile Bowtie car:

Front tabs, and more, often were lost when aftermarket sidepipes were installed. Not sure if that's the case with yours, but common.
