    Re: 1960 Seat Belt Labels

    Loren,

A friend had a set of repros of the earlier style on the belts in his '60, but these are the only ones I've ever seen. I'll see if he remembers where he got them.

      Loren,

I checked and the earlier style labels with no SAE are $120 for four NOS ones!!! If you want to fork over that much, either you are are a rich NCRSer, as most, or just a po' crazy boy like me. My recommendation is that you used the $6-7 labels since they aren't judged to that detail. If you want the correct originals, let me know, and I'll send you the contact info.

Thanks, Bob, for checking on this! That's probably too rich for my blood in doing the price per point analysis. Especially because my belt material is repro, anyway. I bought the Corvette Central "correct remanufactured" seat belts a couple of years ago. The part number is currently 481414-13, listed as for a 61; back when I bought them I think they were listed as correct for 59. The color looked more orange than my red 59 seats, and it had the later label. It was on backorder for months. I was nonetheless pleased with what I got, for $319 the belts looked good; a comparable restored set would no doubt be hundreds more. Also, I think the buckle was original, replated and repainted, and the webbing was 6-bar. So all in all a very nice piece for the price.

Loren, I am glad to hear that the remanufactured belts you purchased from CC were a good buy. I contacted CC last week and they had a set of red belts in stock and I purchased them. The orangish-red is the correct color, but it seems an odd color since it does not come close to matching the seat red color or door panel red color. UPS should deliver them tomorrow evening. I assume the webbing and Irving Air Chute labels will be repro, but the buckles and tongues original type.

Joe, what did you think of the seat belts you got from CC?

They looked great, but the Irving Air Chute labels were sewn in the wrong place on the buckle sides. Sent them back to CC and they are having the labels resewn in the correct position (21.5" from back of buckle). The painted buckles look so nice, I hate to install them. Maybe I will make buckle covers! <grin>

                Joe,

Did you get any comment from the judges at Regional about the Irving Air Chute labels, especially the ones on the female side of the seat belts? I bought a set of the restored/remanufactured belts from Corvette Central and the label is not located as you indicated to be 21.5" from the buckle, and as discussed in the link below.

Before I send back to CC for rework, I wanted to see if you got any confirmation?
