    Steering linkage aLuminum plugs

Can someone show me a picture of what the aluminum plugs looks like after they are installed. Power steering only cars to fill the outer holes. 1972 Thank you

It's simply a BIG aluminum rivet. You can't miss it!

The rivet has a quarter sized flat head that will be on the bottom of the steering link. The rivet itself has a hollow body and the tail end is swaged out and over (somewhat) the top of the steering link when installed.

The rivet is soft aluminum so you can install these with a large C-clamp (or shop press if off the car) and a ball pean hammer placed on the rivet tail.

I know. I am restoring it and need to know how it is finished when you put it in the hole? Is it just smashed flat or?

Paul what year C3 is in your picture? Reason I ask is to find out what year or years the aluminum shield was installed on the power steering valve. My 70 did not come with this. Really nice restoration of the car in the picture.

7816806 Control Valve Assembly. The hose guide bracket was added to the drawing on 2-28-73 (Most likely for start of 1974 production.) Note, this would have been a one year only bracket.

7816806 Control Valve Assembly. The hose guide bracket was modified, (most probably from feedback from the Corvette Assembly Plant.) This was most likely for start of 1975 production.

As far as I can tell, Saginaw always painted the Control Valve Assembly right from first use in 1964 through 1982. The bracket would have been painted black along with the control valve.

The car is a 1971 LT-1 Sept 9th 1970 build. The control valve is a service replacement the original was keep in a box for judging only and was with out the shield or guide. Sorry I have no photo from the top of the rivet that I can find at this time.

Yes, they are available in reproduction. I know I've seen them "out there" but I do not recall just where. Maybe Bairs?

I just got a set of PS spindle rivets from Paragon. They call them, "Plug 63-82 Steering Knuckle Hole" part# 12180K $11.00 They should be inserted from the bottom & peened over on the top. My 64 & 66 AIN show them being inserted from the top.
