        Michael Ward,

Did you read this comment from your statistical source:

"These people are more interested in using alternative browsers than the average user. The average user tends to the browser that comes preinstalled with their computer, and do not seek out other browser aternatives.
These facts indicate that the browser figures above are not 100% realistic. Other web sites have statistics showing that Internet Explorer is a more popular browser."

I think the C.I.A. numbers are more realistic, the numbers you quote sound like wishful thinking on the part of Microsoft haters.

            Mike,

Maybe they are counting browsers used by cell phones? That might explain the discrepancy as there aren't many Windows phones out there (yet?!).

In the Netherlands Firefox overtook IE last month in % of hits originating from PC's and laptop (excl. mobile devices)...

I've used Firefox pretty much exclusively for years now.
I've just changed PCs. The old was Windows 7 32-bit and FireFox worked fine. The new is Windows 7 64-bit. FireFox does not work.

I tried IE9 but it disrupted a number of my settings. I did the Control Panel-Uninstall process and am now back to IE8. Even then I use 32-bit as 64-bit caused some problems. But IE is backwards compatible from the OS; the 64-bit OS does not accommodate 32-bit FireFox. There might be a message there from Microsoft.

Paul, I've been running Win7 64 bit and Firefox since early last summer, no problems at all. Presently at Verson 3.6.15

I fooled with FireFox again last night and got it working. Version 3.6.15 (32-bit, dated March 4, 2011) did the trick as you suggested. Thanks. I take back what I said about Microsoft above.

I was trying the Ver 4.xx 64-bit experiments and they are very iffy.

The final RTM build of IE9 was oficially released to the public yesterday. I installed it last night but forgot to try it on this site, I use Firefox 99% anyway. Just because one has to use the compatibility button sometimes doesn't mean it's a flawed product. Mostly it means allot of the internet is using outdated scripting still designed for IE6.

I have been using FireFox for the last two years. The reason I changed is that it is much more secure than IE. IE (at least V8 and before) was pretty lax about what they let be downloaded. I got hit bad twice with viruses (viri?) when I was using IE. No problem since switching to FireFox.

This change was strongly recommended by the guys who cleaned the latest IE enabled virus from my computer. a couple of years ago. In my opinion, Micrososft has run its course and is old news.
