    I.E. 9 Warning

    All,

Internet Explorer 9.0 is in Beta Testing right now. If you are tempted to try it I recommend against it. For one thing you will not be able to post on the NCRS Technical Discussion Board. I.E. 9 will give you a warning about your message being too short regardless of how long you make it.

It will also break many other websites in addition to this one. Due to a long history with I.E. Microsoft has written themselves into a trap they are hard pressed to get out of.

Maybe I.E. 9 will be an alternative some day but I don't think a couple hundred million websites are going to rewrite their code to accommodate I.E. 9 after being forced to write special code to handle I.E. 5, 6, 7, and 8.

I recommend using Firefox for our discussion board. It also provides for a interactive spell check to prevent you from looking bad. It is easy to download and set up on your computer.

    PS: Firefox is free

I've used Firefox pretty much exclusively for years now.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. IE once captured over 80% of the market, now down to 26%, behind Firefox at 43% and about to be passed by Chrome at 24%.

John, I have been running IE 9 beta, and now the finished version for about 6 months or so. There is a compatability mode button on the top, to the left of the refresh button. Click on this button and it will disable IE 9 for this site. This is the only site that I visit that I had to click that button. I visit 5-6 Vbulletin sites occassionally and do not have problems with them. Go figure

              Re: I.E. 9 Warning

There are a few other issues that IE has with this site and no other VBulletin sites that vex me, so it is not so unusual.

The main one is that clicking one the arrow for new posts in a thread works fine at home, but this is the only VBulletin site that fails to work on other servers -- work and school specifically. That view new posts arrow works on those servers for the other VBulletin sited, just not us.

Ya, they are going to have to add a compatibility button like IE:8

Good to know...if you have automatic updates enabled, you will likely get IE9 without knowing it. Microsoft keeps downloading fixes for XP and I just keep changing my C: drive partition so the operating system will fit (gigabytes). Incredible...a 30 meg hard drive was standard equipment once; how far we've come.

The upgrade to IE 9 is not automatic, at least for me. I received a notice did I want to upgrade.

Chuck, I remember the first computer I owned with a hard drive was 10 meg. I thought I was on top of the world. It replaced a Kaypro with two 5 1/4" floppies

I agree, it's not automatic. And will not be included in automatic updates.

And now it's not uncommon to have 2+ TB of hard drive.

Michael Ward, where did you get your numbers?

The latest numbers I see published have: IE 56+%, Firefox 21+% and Chrome and just under 11%.
