    Syd,
The silver car (gray primer) was originally a 4 speed which was changed to a aluminum Powerglide. The 4 speed with a Hurst shifter went with the car as did the RF block. It looked like the nose of the car was replaced including the core support.
From what I understand the owners wife did not want a 4 speed. I do not know who the body manufacturer was.
The buyer was a Corvette "flipper" and the car should appear for sale on Ebay soon.

Hard to imagine any profit margin for that "flip"

I was there and learned a valuable lesson. If you want to sell your car for the most money,First strip it of all the good parts and sell them at the swap meet.Take the motor out ,sit it on a wood pallet and let it rust a while. Put the wrong engine and trans in.Park the cars out doors or in a very damp garage for a season or two. Put all the worn out and extra parts you have in no particular order in moldy boxes. Now call the Auctioneer and shoot for the moon.
I was absolutely amazed at the prices for junk.I saw a young man pay over $200.00 for 40 year old posters that were given away by Goodyear for promotional purposes.

        That's interesting.

            Bruce,

Thanks for posting! Just as many suspected, it is being flipped. Kinda pricey I thought, for what you're getting. I especially liked this quote in the ebay listing:

"The frame is in good shape but has some visible rust; the kick-ups have already been repaired at some point and look great. Chassis is 100% original & complete showing just the typical surface rust-scaling."

But they are a Corvette restoration shop - you should be confident in their assessment and intended sale price. Is their oopening price above what they paid for it, by 20%?

Why its taking so long to get documentation is a little worrysome...

If the VIN number was in a gang holder back in 63 how is it possible to have that much mis alignment right in the middle of the sequence? I've never seen it on any of my cars. One thing I did run across years ago was an over the counter block assembly that had the assembly code ONLY and also ONLY an R on the end, presumably so it could have been a replacement for either a 340 or 360 horse engine. Makes you wonder if this one is really real. Judges????

                  Norris,

After the initial strike, occasionally the hammer will bounce up and fall to hit the gang a second time after recoil of the first strike.

Bruce, I thought this was the car that the girl bought to have restored? You think she gave up because of the price?

I've seen double strikes before, but not where most of the line was straight with no ghost from one of the hits. That one looks like 2 seperate strikes of split letters. It's hard to figure how a second strike could be so well defined on the first 3 numbers and the 4th one could be so clean without a hint.

I agree. Believe it or not, that most likely IS a genuine stamp. It looks like the first hit was on an angle and only some of the characters went in. The operator saw the problem and placed the stamp tool in position again. (almost) The second hit was on an opposite angle so the missing characters would be stamped.

After reading the description, that is REALLY hard to believe! Had to be a shill or something. Doesn't run and no brakes? Rusty frame and crude patches?

                              Wooooooow. (Is that enough "o"'s?)
