    Re: '64 Replacement Outside Mirror

Scott, great. I started looking into removing the snap ring. It does seem like my old mirror is like yours. There is pitting around the edge of the mirror where the snap ring sets and my old snap ring seems stuck, where I do not know. I was thinking of taking a feeler guage or something thin and trying to run above and under the snap ring. I am not too concerned about damage to my odl mirror except for the snap ring (which I assume to be fairly tough). My mirror base is pitted and I have considered cutting away part of the edge to release the snap ring. I do hate to destroy old parts and will try to determine if it is an original first. If I get any good suggestions and I let you know.

Dale, your new mirror from Paragon should come apart fairly easily, if someone can outline the standard procedure. If you can then see how the new mirror comes apart and reassembles, it might help you to better understand (and address) whatever the problem is with the old mirror.

Paragon is a great company, I am not knocking them. They will likely take my mirror back, but I hope to swap the snap ring. This is really my mistake, I was ordering a lot of other parts based on recommendations and i just drop the mirror in the order without doing my research.

          Thank you Everyone
          Dale,

In the first part of the 10 years I've been working on restoring my '66 I bought many repro parts from the various catalog vendors before I realized that a very nice, shiny new part was not always going to pass muster during NCRS judging. I, too, have a Paragon exterior mirror that probably will never be put on my car. Also, a new radiator, new spare tire lock, tail pipe extensions, air cleaner lid, expansion tank cap. I won't go on, as I don't want to think about the cumulative cost.

          Gary
