    David,

Thanks for your post. I researched & looked for eight years for my balancer before I put my money down. Mine is newly rebuilt and I'm pleased with it. The guy on eBay is asking more than I paid, but he does have a "make an offer" option. Its good to hear someone agree/affirm that I have an elusive GM # 3764318. Maybe I didn't waste all that time and money!

      Re: '61 Harmonic Balancer Question

Would anyone know the manufacture of the balancers? Was there more than one supplier-manufacture?

      Thanks, Ray

Would the '61 low and high HP balancers be 6" in diameter. I need to buy some timing tape for my balancer to adjust the valves. Mr Gasket sells two sizes of timing tape for Chevy's 6" or 6 3/4". Which is correct for the '61 balancer? Thanks

I think they are actually about 6-1/8" OD. However, I don't think you'll find a tape for that size. If you use the 6" OD balancer tape, you won't be off by very much in the range of the tape that you'll be using for timing purposes.

I don't think that GM actually manufactured any of the balancers, and I think there were several suppliers. However, I doubt that that there were several suppliers for each balancer part number, especially the relatively limited use SHP balancers.

              Larry,

Joe is correct, the high hp balancer (pictured above in this list of posts) does measure 6 & 1/8 inch OD, ...if you buy a tape for a 6" OD balancer, you won't be off by very much.
