C-1 fuel pump leak

The bottom of my furl pump has two screws and is shaped like
a shalow bowl. It is leaking where a gasket is pressed out past
the mating edges. Can I remove this lower piece without draining my gas tank? can a new gasket be made from sheet material? Any help is
appreciated before I try this.

What you see sticking out is the outer edge of the diaphragm. You need to buy a rebuild kit.

Bruce,
John is correct in saying you need to rebuld your fuel pump.
Be sure that no fuel entered into your oil system.
Some, (but not all) fuel pumps would leak fuel into the block when the diaphragm went bad.
If the oil smells like gas, don't start your motor. Good way to wipe out the bearings.

I can second that. Back when, I had an Oldsmobile engine (in a 1952 Ford conv.), and I wiped out a rod bearing cause of gas in the oil. To be on the safe side, change the oil before you run it again. -Dan-

I blew a valve cover almost all the way off from a lean backfire that ignited the breather tube to air cleaner fumes on a Pontiac because of fuel pump dumping fuel in the oil.
