    53 to 57 speedometer repair

I have a speedometer that has sat for about 35 years......will not turn.

I took it apart and everything is lose except the main shaft and gear (the one the cable fits into) it is frozen solid. I have soaked it in penitraiting oil for a day now, still frozen. Does anyone know how to break the shaft free? Is there a locking device behind one of the little plugs? Does it just press out? Is there a diagram out there ? Thanks Bob

I would suggest looking in the Driveline under services and contact a few of the people who repair these gauges. Most are pretty busy and may not have the time to read this board.

Thanks for the Info. I'd thought someone out there would have taken on apart?

John; Roy suggested that I drop the small case with the frozen shaft in boiling water for a few minutes. It broke free in no time. That was too easy. I fixed my cable with a new end piece. They crimp on. bob
