I have a 4 speed BW with a "t" lock shift linkage. The problem is that the reverse locks intermittantly. I have to get under the car to release it. Should I adjust the reverse linkage arm to give it a longer or shorter throw?

Re: Shift linkage sticks in Reverse
If I remember right the borg warner linkage had a hole (about1/8'') that indicated the linkage to neutral.
1 - you disconnect the linkage rods from the trans arms
2 - You put a pin in the hole that finds neutral in your linkage block
3 - then you make sure the trans is in neutral (detent in shifting arm in side cover) & detent in reverse arm.
4 - adjust linkage rods to enter shifting arms and your done
That's how my 59 adjusted, if you cant find a hole on your linkage block then look for what ever indicates all 3 levers to neutral ( step 2 )

Re: Shift linkage sticks in Reverse
dom: i think you're recalling the method to adjust a Hurst 4 speed shifter(a pin thru the holes in the 3 shift levers). with the stock t-10 shifter, i fab'd a piece of wood or metal to slide in the top of the shifter that catches the notches in the tops of the three levers. i believe the shop manual(available from the ncrs store) illustrates the block of wood. regards, mikeIf I remember right the borg warner linkage had a hole (about1/8'') that indicated the linkage to neutral.

Re: Shift linkage sticks in Reverse
Mike,
You may be right and the linkage may have ben built by hurst but it was stock in my 59. What I didn't say was that it was a stock 59 biscayne.
