    Nice pictures Dan. Yours looks almost the same as mine, with the exception of the clip on the front. I'll have to get my wife to help me load my pictures as they are on her camera and there is a gazillion to scroll through right now. My shield is certifiable by me as original as I was there when it was picked up at the dealer in 63. Mine also has a clip on the rear which engages the tach drive cable nut. There are two positions for these clips, i.e. one for L-76 and the other for an L-84 (fuelie), and the clips are different. Your front one looks more like a fuelie clip. Mine is just "U" shaped with the jagged ends facing the air filter.

    I see your manifold boss is correct in that it is NOT drilled and tapped like so many we see.

      Joel, just a thought, but are you sure you have the right gasket thickness between the carb and the manifold? I can see how one too thin might result in an interference issue.

        Joel;

        Tracy may have hit on something in that if you follow through with putting an L-75 phenolic spacer under your carb, you may at least have clearance.

        Will try to post my photos later today.

          Joel, Measure your repro distributor shield at the area where it's hitting the air cleaner. Measure it at it's "fattest" place.
          Give us a measurement on the bottom of the shield (very easy to get an accurate number by turning the shield upside down. Then measure it on top.
          Check out the angle cut on top at the fattest part where the shield is touching the air cleaner.

          After you are done doing all the above your may find out your repro is attributing to your issues.
          As you know there are two variations of 63 shields. My Feb/March 63 has an AM radio and has the 1st generation shield with no cutout in the back. The 2nd version has two cutouts. FI and Carb.
          But you should be able to massage the brackets with nice dead blow hammer. If that doesn't work get a bigger hammer.
          Recap: You aren't the 1st to complain about a repro shield not fitting a carb car. Now I assume more than one company makes these things and some must be better than others.
          Leave the shield off for a better running car Joel. Shields are nothing but trouble. JD

            Hi John;

            Mine is an early car too; March 13th to be exact..... I actually did what you suggested earlier today... I "persuaded" the shield mounting brackets (repops) with some elbow grease creating about 1/2" of space... I will take it all apart just to check alignment and clearances and to make sure we have not created any electrical shorts... Nothing like cooking that top harness to get your blood moving....

            With the exception of that top shield all that is in there came with the car. The top shield was from a '65 I was able to determine... I'm not sure if I bought the early or late repop.. it has been a while.. the only remaining problem is the the fact that the bottom of the shield hits the intake manifold.. and I suspect that I can deal with that too.

            Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions!!

            Joel
