    66' AC schrader valve replacement

I need to replace the schrader valves on the manifold of the AC compressor on my 66'. The problem I am having is the openings to get the valve out is smaller in diameter than the removal tools you get at an auto parts store. I even tried the old style valve stem cap that had a removal end on it. Is there a special smaller diameter tool made to remove these R-12 AC schrader valves? Anyone else ever had this problem? It still has the original brass acorn caps on it. Could these caps have been tightened to much and reduced the top of the opening? It doesn't look like thiough.
    Thanks

    Gary:

To the best of my knowledge, the Schrader valve(s) for your AC system should use the same removal tool as a tire valve stem. You could buy a removal tool (not very $) and then carefully grind it down to a smaller diameter. It shouldn't take much.....and hopefully the Schrader valve will come out the smaller diameter hole.

If not, you could carefully ream/file the hole. It probably has a slight burr.

The correct replacement Schrader valves are AC # 15-3321, or GM # 12307041, or NAPA # TEM 209578.

Larry is correct, it is the exact same tool. In my experience I have found that when caps are overtightened the tapered surface that the cap seats on gets crushed inward, or peened over. Larry is also correct about getting yours out. One possible problem though. The treaded portion may come out but separate from the body of the schrader valve leaving it suck behind. No worry though, usually I've been able to use a small easy-out to grab it and pull it out. Have fun!!
