It is interesting to see the paint markings which were applied to various parts during their manufacture/machining/assembly processes, but actual correctness would seem to be that none of these markings were visible when the cars rolled out the back door of the St. Louis plant.

Now, once again, I'll inquire about the paint markings-------------which I've asked several times in the past with ZERO answers provided.
On multiple parts, mainly chassis/suspension/steering parts, there have been various colors applied (blue, white, yellow, green, orange, etc). And they appear to have been semi haphazzardly applied with a paint brush as a daub, stripe, circle, etc.
DOES ANYONE ON THE PLANET KNOW THE MEANING OR APPLICATION OF ANY OF THE COLORS ON ANY OF THE VARIOUS PARTS?????????????????????????
i've glass beaded probably10 c-1's and 15 c-2's over the years as well as judging many bowtie candidates 53-67. i have no idea what the various colors i've uncovered underneath the factory blackout are indicative of but i'm pretty sure the various parts were blacked out in st louis. mike

      Mike,
It goes without saying that you are probably considered to be one of the most knowledgeable NCRS gurus.
AND, if you don't know what the application of the various colors at the various locations on the early chassis/components, WHO DOES? So far, no one has stepped up to provide answers to these various color applications.
Now, even though I am not a big stickler for absolute correctness and matching numbers, I thoroughly appreciate what is involved to restore a car to its back door St. Louis condition. It is extremely gratifying to see such a perfect, or near perfect example.
And finally, here's where I'm going with all of this rhetoric. If no one can provide answers to the application of the various colors, then how in God's green earth can anyone say what is, and what is not correct (in regards to the application of colors)?????????????? It seems anyone could dab on a color, any color, and claim that was what they found on their car, right?

Of course, if you do like me, and chrome plate everything, then there is no need to worry about the location and application of colors!

Thanks Jerry. This info from Gary is some help, but it would be good to have more details available. As I mentioned, I AM NOT a correctness/numbers person. But I do so appreciate a car (and not just a Vette) that has been restored to its factory delivered condition. And if they are to be returned to their factory delivered condition, it would be nice to observe all the tiny details that were present at that time. Although, it seems somewhat impractical as to what and where inspection/application/torque/installation colors were applied it they were then covered up with chassis black????????????????????? But, nevertheless--------------------------------

Now, if I can just get someone to provide us with detailed specifications for markings and configuration on our WWII A-26 bomber.

              Jeez, Tom -

You forgot the oil stains on the R-2800 front case and mags from the leaking prop governor seals (they weren't on the P&W drawings either).

That's because this engine is FRESH out of overhaul. ZERO time (except for the 6hr test run at the overhaul facility). ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL new seals and gaskets, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL new jugs (NOS), pistons, rings, bearings, blower clutches and completely rebuilt mags, carburetor, pumps and all new plumbing.
We will be picking up our second engine Thursday.

                Six hours later, no leaks!!!!
