Joe Lucia - C2/C3 Steering Gear Part Numbers

    Joe Lucia,
Can you please provide the part numbers for the various Saginaw steering gear assemblies that were used throughout the C2/C3 model years?

        Thanks Joe,
I am going to try and obtain some of the gear drawings while I still know a few people at Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi Steering/Nexteer.

I have no record of any steering gear assembly of GM #5677649. If I recall correctly, that's the casting number of the steering gear housing used for 1963-82 Corvette steering gears.

            Joe,

Pages 9-A1 and 9-A2 (Contents - Steering, Steering Gear & Linkage) are missing from the 1967 AIM. However, on UPC N36-A1 (Telescopic Steering Shaft Equip. - Contents) the 1967 AIM says "The same parts are installed the same as regular production" and then calls out the 1967 Gear Asm. by part number 5694401. The same page in the 1965-66 AIMs call out the same 5694401 part number.

Was there a different PRODUCTION part number for the steering box with telescopic steering column, or is 5694401 referring to something else?

While sheets A1 and A2 are missing from the copies we have of the AIM, I have a copy of sheet A2. It shows the 1967 steering gear as GM #5677641.

GM #5694401 is the PRODUCTION part number for the 1967 steering gear assembly used with N-36. The steering gear assembly includes the steering coupler. Since the coupler is different for the N-36 option versus non N-36, the steering gear assembly part numbers are also different.
