63-67 convertible nut plates

Does anyone know where I can find a pair of the nut plates that the convetible top bows screw into? These are the plates that float in a cage in the birdcage behind the rear interior quarter panels.

I don't know for sure but Long Island Corvette has a very large inventory of parts try them. They have an online catalog on their web site. What happened to the original plates. If they are stripped as one of mine was you could try to use a helicoil it worked for me.

Not sure if your still looking (since this post is from 2002) but I just went thru that with my 63. I had to have them made. I have drawings of what they look like, and can get a set made for you if you are still interested.

Jeremy,

I know I have a pair of the nut plates as well as the bolts somewhere in my garage. I got them from a 63-67 Corvette in a salvage yard in Leominster, MA, in the early 1980's. When I get a chance I will look for them but don't hold your breath because it may take some time to find them. If you can find some elsewhere then go for it.

While looking for other parts I finally found the pair of original 63-67 plates that the convertible top bows bolt into.
Enclosed is a photo. The overall length measures 4 1/16". Each is stamped "AS". I painted them back in the 1980's with black spray paint. One of them is nice but the other one has some pitting from rust.

I assume that you have found a pair by now.

Are these called out anywhere in the AIM? I thought they had to be, since they would not have been installed on a coupe, but I didn't see them where I expected to find them.

I do not believe that the plates are listed in the AIM because they are part of the convertible body assembly. I remember that when I removed them from a wrecked mid-year convertible at a junk yard in Leominster, MA, it was not that easy. I have to break a sheet metal retainer to remove them.

They're shown in the convertible lock pillar subassembly - UPC 1 Bolt/Weld, sheet A3, view "B", item #11, P/N 3824879 Nut.

My 1966 AIM is missing sheets A3 and A4.
Sheet A2 is page F32
Sheet A5 is page F33
My 1967 AIM does have sheet A3 with the 3824879 nut as well as the retainer, GM # 3797300, which I had to break to remove each nut.

I do not believe that the plates are listed in the AIM because they are part of the convertible body assembly. I remember that when I removed them from a wrecked mid-year convertible at a junk yard in Leominster, MA, it was not that easy. I have to break a sheet metal retainer to remove them.

Interesting that even cars that were assembled as hardtop only still received a pair of the nut plates. My 66 was hard top only and the plates are present, held in place by one correct soft top mounting bolt per side.

My '67 AIM shows these nut plates where John stated, but my '66 AIM is missing those pages (A3 & A4). I see what you mean. I can't find the part in the 63 AIM either but I'm pretty sure it's there somewhere. The 3824879 part number numerical value definitely shows that it was a part originally introduced for the 63 model year.
