Article showing 67 vent window rebuild?

I need to rebuild my vent window regulators, but before I order the parts, I want to see what I'm in for.

I have searched the archives, and I see some guys saying it is pretty easy.

Does anyone have an article they can post that shows a step by step?

I've done two, they are pretty simple, parts come with instructions.

Yes, the rebuilding of the regulator itself is very easy. Messing with the door panel and vent window frame, not so much.

How do they come out of the door? I have the panel off, and I pulled those few screws out, but I couldn't wiggle them out easily. Do I have to raise the vent window assembly up a bit to get them out?

Yes take the hole vent window assembly out, it is a little tricky, you have to hold your tonge just right.

On my 65 Roadster, I could not get the whole vent assembly out of the door withour removing the lower stud, so I chose not to do that. I did raise the assembly up a little to get the regulator off and on. It would help to have an assistant hold the assembly while you work on it so that you don't damage anything. The only things that hold it in there are the three screws and the bolt that attaches the t-post to the regulator shaft.

              Hi Chris,

Do you have the Corvette Restorer Summer 2000 article titled "Overview of some Corvette (midyear) door anatomy" by David Zuberer? It's about 15 pages long with color photographs, and it was made available as a PDF document at some point. It's available for download on the Barry Kimmelman website: http://www.lbfun.com/Corvette/Tech/vettetech.html

Not sure if this will work, but here is a direct link to the article:

Scott, that's PERFECT, thanks for the links.

My new regulators from Paragon arrived today, so I'm going to try this over the weekend hopefully.

                  Chris,

Let me know what you think about the Paragon repro regulators, my 67 convertible has one that's now broke. I am also interested if you have to remove the complete vent window assembly to replace the regulator..

Re: Article showing 67 vent window rebuild?

Tim, I installed the driver's side vent window regulator. It went in really easy. The trickiest part was getting the vent window mechanism out of the door WITHOUT removing the main side glass. It can be done, but it is tricky. I found that the screw at the bottom of the vent window support rod, if you unscrew that, it is a LOT easier to get the whole thing back in the door. Then, before you slide the whole thing all the way down into the door, put that screw back in.

                      Worked great.

My issue now is that I can't seem to get my door panel realigned. Grr.......

As for the Paragon vent window regulator, it is a REALLY nice piece. However, I found that the regulator wasn't really the issue. The regulator takes the motion of the crank, and turns it 90 degrees so it spins the vent window bracket, thereby opening or closing the window. There is a shaft that comes down off of the vent window bracket. That shaft was worn to the point where even WITH the new regulator, I still had 1/2 of a turn of free play in the knob. That is too much, according to the PV manual. I wound up sandwiching a stainless steel washer in between the shaft that comes down off of the vent window frame and the regulator. Now, I have 1/4 turn of free play, as the manual says.

I'm thinking that all I had to do was to take the original one apart, put the washer in, and put it back together. Could have saved $300......oh well. Now I have a good part in there that will be good for a LONG time.
