Re: Fall Restorer Cover, Ya Gotta Love It...

Thanks. I was recently talking to a member who complained that Restorer articles are "too short". Well, I FIXED THAT!!!

And I guess everyone must have fully understood A Tale of Two Camshafts being as how no questions have been posted... or maybe everyone is still trying to figure it out.

Also, I liked Vinnie's photo montage coverage of the National Convention. Sometimes pictures are better than words.

      Vinne, really nice work!
I think I can say with some assurance that for most of the 1957 as well as the C1 members who own one it does touch something deep down inside of me in a good way to see one posted so strongly on the cover, especially when I am lucky enough to own just one example of the 57 corvette. Keep up the good work & service to all us members, it does make me prouddddddd!!!

I photographed the car at the regional in Marlboro, MA in 2008...extracted it from the background and had to take out most of the lights that were reflected on the hood and fenders...some huge splotches of white light reflection as well as other small ones...anyway...then had to photograph an NCRS license plate and get it close to the same angle and replace Mike's Maryland plate...but had to leave the attaching screws...

Then I got the fuel unit poster from John DeGregory...it was on a red background and the entire fuel unit had a red tint to it...took multiple photos of it and had to extract it from the background and also eliminate all the red tint on the entire unit...it gets better...it had a reproduction air cleaner...black gasket and light tan paper element...so, naturally my 2 best buddies...Mikey and Dennis said that won't do...any old timer will know it's a repop...so I first started to try to change the color of the gasket to blue...AND the paper element to the darker brown...zooming in to over 600% I started trying to color the paper element without disturbing the screening...lots of work...and I thought it looked terrible...so then the MAC Chapter had a judging school at KC Strawmyre's place in Feb...so I went there and Mike brought his original filter and I did a photo shoot of over 100 photos from all different angles as it sat on top of a cardboard box...ok...had the original filter...but wait...the angle just wasn't 100% correct so had to transform it to a 3d object in Photoshop and place it over the original one that was on the poster...then erase the original repop...but wait...for the photoshoot, Mike's air filter didn't have the stud or the wing nut...so had to use those from the poster photo and align everything as best as possible at the correct place/angle...all in all about 60 hrs of work just on the cover...and it's as close as I could get to the one in Mike's car...not perfect...but close...and John....thanks for the poster once again and comments...only very few members would have picked up on the minor differences...

Vinnie, In 22 years of receiving the Restorer, this cover now has become my all time favorite...... I'm going to frame a copy for the wall of the garage.

Re: Fall Restorer Cover, Ya Gotta Love It...

Got my copy yesterday. Awesome cover!!! I can relate very well to this as my 57, when (if) I ever get it completed will be black with silver (original color). It will also feature a completely restored 375 FI unit, feeding a period correct 327 power unit. A driver for sure. but sounds like a lot of fun, especially seeing how I have not experienced that feeling since 1970.

I too am going to order a print, frame it, and hang it in my garage right next to the car -Dan-

Clem is RIGHT ON with the note about text over photos. It is extremely hard to read depending on the condition of the ol'eyes adn the lighting in the room. Love the photos but can't read some of the text on top of them!

              Just some constructive feedback

Dan and Clem....thanks for the constructive criticism and I see exactly what you are talking about...In the future if I use that effect, I'll definitely make it a point to lower the opacity of the background image...it didn't look that dark on my computer screen, but when processed by our printer the opacity is darker than what I'm looking at on my screen...so I'll make the necessary adjustments in the future...thanks again...

Yes, now that I have my issue I can see that it is an excellent cover. And a fine job on the inside too Vinnie -- even if I do say so myself.

For a while I was beginning to think I had moved to St Louis for this issue.

Can anyone explain the "St. Louis Issue". Is that alike a "Black Hole"?

                          Rich,

A print is being made available for a nominal fee. There is a sticky at the top of the tech board regarding this very topic.
