    Vinyl repair

I have a very original 67 and the passenger door panel has a crack about where someone's elbow rests. I'd like to keep the original panel if possible but I'd like to know if anyone has had any success in getting this repaired. Did it look ok? Did it last?

Any suggestions for a good place to do this in St. Louis?

    Hi Charles,

There is a Thread on this subject that was revived recently, with some helpful information: Original 67 Door Panel Restoration

Charles, YOu could take the easy way out on the repair and have one of the recon guys do it. In my area there is a real old time artist that services ALL of the area dealerships and recon shops.
I had a GMC Yukon lease vehicle that had leather seats that were thinner than paper. Had nice hole on the drivers seat from my large you know what. Well the lease was up and GMC said new seat cover was more than a years wages. So I took it to a pals recon shop and left it there for a day. Seat repair was non detectable and the cost was peanuts. Try it. JD

I've used this kit from Permatex on the wife's Jag black vinyl interior in the past with excellent results in judged events.

Worked great on the Chevy's too. I repaired a friends 65 coupe's original black door panels using this kit. It includes grain paper to match the original grain very closely.

Results were excellent. I modified the tip of the iron using a smaller head on some of the tight areas. He had 4 or 5 cracks and blemishes on both panels, both upper panel ends and near the pull handles if I recall. He got 0 deducts on the repaired panels at the Florida Regional and the Chrarlotte National this year.

p.s. here's the instruction set for it.......
