Dick is right, you could replace every body panel and have legal car, at least in Alabama. Messing with the VIN tag is a no-no.

Aren't some of those panels stamped with the "hidden" VIN on Camaros?

thats a lot of money for a vin tag and title. once you have that you have to buy a 67 camaro to put it in. probably will be hard to make money on that car.

Hell in Alabama, you don't even need a VIN tag to get a title, just a bill of sale. Don't ask how I know that

Year One and several others sell every panel for that car. Dynacorn makes a complete body, under license from GM. Dynacorn also makes most of the parts. It's been a couple of years since I checked but at the time every part but the heater controls was available.

But you're right, you'll go upside down in that kind of restoration, especially if you try to make it a Class I car.

they all do somewhere but most cant be found with the car together. on a c3 its on top of the frame on the left rear. all you have to do is pull the body off to see it.

Speaking of off topic cars, does anyone know how that Pontiac factory race car that showed up on ebay a couple of years ago is coming along?

"The Camaro was built Sep of 1966 in Norwood Ohio."

In the summer of `66 the Camaro I had was shown at the Canadain National Exibition in August. I bought it from my dealer in September to Rally.

Paul..it is not a one to one comparison..but the same reasoning was used by many that passed up the opportunity to buy tired old Grand Sports...

The question is...how valuable is a fully restored Vin #1 67 Camaro.

I have no expertise in Camaro's but I can see how it would be desirable.

However, as of Dec 9, 2009, a VIN inspection is required for all vehicles that change ownership in Alabama. This is to meet the requirements of the NVMTIS (google it, I don't want to spell it out).

I seem to recall that 1st gen Camaros have VIN derivatives stamped on the body in both the cowl area and the passenger side firewall area.

I wonder if this car still has it's original cowl and / or firewall?

Try: NMVTIS, it will work better.

                          Terry;

I wanted them to work at it for a while....

                            Cecil -

We (CRG) have noted similar anomalies (abnormally high body numbers) on about ten of the first 20 '67 Norwood Camaros; it appears that the trim tags on some of those very first cars were changed before they were sold at retail (we've verified the trim tags as Norwood-stamped).

Now that's interesting. Any idea why this happened?

Yes, but the heater blower opening (where one of the partial VINs is) has been covered, and the upper cowl plenum (where the other one is) is also covered by an add-on panel; the owner has never had either one off.
