Let me guess: The first Norwood '67 Camaro; a 6-cylinder, 2-door sport coupe.

That is, if I'm interpreting the codes from A.Colvin book correctly.

I owned a 67 Caprice when I was 16 and looked to see what was available on ebay...and ran into this serial #1 67 Camaro .

Am not promoting it or have any connection with it...but VIN # 1 vehicles are very interesting.

        Look it up.

Very cool old race car that started life as VIN #1.

It was made into a drag car decades ago (tubbed, back-halved, tilt front end, psychedelic paint job, etc.) and sat unloved, rusting that way with no drivetrain for the last 20 years or so. It's been for sale several times on eBay over the last year, and is up again, I believe. We (CRG) have followed it for some time.

VIN #1 and BODY #860? How does that work? I realize the body number does not correlate to the VIN, but you would think it might on the first one.

back then GM sold "bodies in white" which were just a body shell so you could build a race car.

Is it truly the first one ever, or just the first Norwood car ?? Either way, #1 is pretty interesting.

The only value in this car is "the first Camaro" (or perhaps the first Norwood Camaro). Ex race Camaros are all over the place, and a dime a dozen.

It will cost a fortune to restore this car to original condition, which is where the value lies.

I am amazed that people are willing to pay what this car is currently bid up to.

Hmmm. Makes a good case for a donor body to install the VIN tag on

And the trim tag, assuming it is still there.

                            Which raises the question????
It is illegal to use a vin tag from another car,on your car....BUT is it a sin to put a new BODY on to an existing factory riveted /never touched VIN tag frame ???

Francis, it is my understanding under Federal law (and probably most state laws) to remove a VIN tag and place it on another vehicle. If I understand the second part of your question, no, you could legally replace every body panel. Now, on a mid-year, cutting out the bar with all the tags would be another story
