The Pirelli will provide tens of thousands of miles of good touring service and excellent handling.

With proper tuning (alignment and hard bushings for the front anti-roll bar links) of the base suspension, the Avon will achieve about 1.0 g lateral, but will only last 5-10K miles of road driving, depending on how aggressive you are.

Thanks Duke, I will look into the Pirelli P4000s.

Using the Pirelli P4000 tire as an example, is this how it would work for Judging?

Tires are 30 originality points and 30 condition points, including the spare, or 6 points originality & 6 points condition for each of five tires (correct spare is judged separately, p. 21, Judging Reference Manual). If I understand that correctly, it looks like four Pirelli P4000s would get a 100% deduct unless I have Diamondback put a redline (or a whitewall) on the Pirelli P4000s, in which case I would get a 75% deduct on four road tires, but that clears the 10% originality rule threshold (p. 18), so condition points would count.

Assuming a correct non-matching spare and like-new condition for all 5 tires: no deduct on the spare, no condition deduct, 18 point originality deduct on four Pirelli tires (4 x 6 = 24 possible originality points x 75% = 18 point deduction). Best case scenario is 42 out of 60 points on tires.

Did I figure that right, or at least wind up with the correct number?

        or What?????
I would take the white/blue 67 L88 convertible Daytona racer over any ZL1 without question.

The Pirellis would not be a good choice for judging, but are the best normal driving tire you can buy. I haven't read the JFM lately, but if you have a non-OE brand, it's a 100 percent deduct for both originality and condition, so I don't just having a stripe put on them would reduce the deduction.

My recommendation for those who are going through judging and have their goals set on a high award is to have two sets of wheels and tires - one for judging with a repro bias ply tire that will minimize the tire points deduction and one for driving.

A good wheel for any midyear is a repro '67 Rally wheel, 15 x 6 x .06" offset. They'll fit all C2s and you can mount the earlier wheel covers on them.

Maybe some others can confirm the deduction situation with the Pirelli and a repro OE tire of an acceptable brand.

According to Mecum, the 67 L-88 did not sell. $1.25 was high bid, but didnt meet reserve.

Thanks Duke, I'll start a new tire Thread when I'm closer to the point of buying tires, so as not to hijack this Thread (any more).

IMHO. Thats the first anyone on here or the Corvette Forum has heard that. It would have been corrected by now.
Unless someone backed out on the deal,It sold. Saw it with my own eyes. Otherwise I wouldn't have posted this to begin with.

Re: 67 L-88 Goes for $1.25 Million at Mecum Monterey!!

It was first reported by Corvette Blogger that it did not sell. they have since corrected that.

                        Update
I have been informed by several readers that the first L88 Corvette did sell at $1.25 million at the Mecum at Monterey auction. A review of the mecum.com results confirms this. I apologize for the error.
The first documented L88 Corvette failed to sell at the Mecum at Monterey auction yesterday afternoon even as bidding for the former race car crossed the seven figure mark. $1,250,000 was the high bid for first documented 427/430 hp Corvette that was campaigned by Tony DeLorenzo in the SCCA A Production class. Years later the Corvette was restored and won awards from Bloomington Gold and the NCRS.

Re: 67 L-88 Goes for $1.25 Million at Mecum Monterey!!

This is coming to you as we return from the car-happy Monterey Peninsula, where the entire staff of SCM is careening around auctions, concours, vintage races and other car events. Here's our first take of the action (and auctions), and we'll have another "Monterey Extra" edition of the newsletter later this week. Preliminary Monterey results show $172m in sales!
<A href="http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103618099000&s=31278&e=001mn7MmJ7WVVtB_ T9jMsttfT5NgFnpy9tGOka_4ZurrUEGjoZx3jPU7D3R7Vw1E34 JIrPYXl8rKZbCkzqdcqt85_O5D8UC9cwmVklcSbDP1Y5mKcISZ th9gprRtl6X9vlN92A5Em-s7n4=" shape=rect rel=nofollow target=_blank>Million-dollar cars were out in force at nearly each auction location in Monterey.

SCM Publisher Keith Martin commented "Some thought our $140m in projected sales for Monterey was hopelessly optimistic in the face of a flailing economy. Yet the overall sales of $172m surpassed that prediction by $32m and surpassed last year's total of $120m by a staggering $52m. This proved that there is still enormous discretionary wealth in the upper echelon of the collector car world. Further, I believe these sales results are evidence that in the face of lackluster stock market and still-falling real estate prices, investors are moving their money into a segment of the market that is showing appreciation, which is collector cars. My next prediction - hang on to your hats, the roller coaster is just beginning to gather steam."

While the auction companies are still furiously working around the clock to get deals done, here are the preliminary results we have. These totals and Top 5 cars are subject to change. We'll have an updated special Monterey edition later this week. (All overall sale totals include buyer's premiums; the Bonham's top 5 sales do NOT include premiums).

Sorry for the partial post above. Apparently my attempt to edit did not work. I was trying to ask if anyone knew the auction results of the 1963 serial number 15 red/red F.I. roadster? I believe the auction house was R & M.

                              Thank you,
