I had heard that Terry bought both cars for a client, I guess time will tell if my information is correct.

Last I heard Terry M. was selling Pro-Team awhile ago for $15 Million. Guess he's still keeping the BB market up.

Looks a lot different that it did in June 1983, when we took it to Bloomington.

Here's the DB thread (with pics) of a few years ago:

Can anyone explain about the blue-line Goodyear tires? I have seen them on several midyears, and a similar but different style on some vintage racers and on the Bob Wingate '67, but I have not been able to find out much information about them.

For comparison, here are some pictures of the another Goodyear blue-line on a vintage racer, and what may be a THIRD blue-line style tire (the word "Goodyear" looks smaller, possibly a different tread pattern) on the Bob Wingate FSO car.

The Goodyear "Blue Line" tires were never originally installed on any PRODUCTION Corvette. They were, basically, a racing tire and they had thin rubber on the sidewalls which made them unsuitable for street use. Of course, that did not stop the so-inclined from using them on the street.

The "Blue Line" tires are more associated with Shelby cars. I think that some of these cars may have originally used them, including the Mustang GT-350 and Cobra.

Awhile ago reproductions of the "Blue Line" tires were available. However, I do not know if they remain so.

The first time I saw that car, August of '85 it had the Blue Steak street tires on it. I had never seen a set before, and I have been to 3 World Fair's and two goat ropeing's

Re: 67 L-88 Goes for $1.25 Million at Mecum Monterey!!

Back in the mid sixties, Goodyear offered several "high performance" bias ply street tires that were named and styled similar to their racing tires and some models were OE on Shelbys.

In 1964 when the OE General Jet Aires on my SWC chunked from hot lapping Kent, I evaluated the Michelin X, Goodyear Wingfoot Special, which was Goodyear's then available high performance OE replacement bias ply, and the Blue Streak Sports Car Special, which was a real racing tire.

This particular "Speedway Blue Streak" is one of several follow-on designs to the Wingfoot Special. It is not a racing tire, but one of several street tires offered during the sixties that mimicked the styling and naming of real Goodyear racing tires.

I don't think they are currently reproduced, so they are probably a set that someone unearthed from four decades of storage.

You can check the Kelsey Tire site to see all the currently reproduced Goodyear vintage street tires.

The tires on the Wingate car are not true racing tires, either, but I cannot tell exactly what model Goodyear the are. It looks to me like some information was buffed off and the blue line may have been added after they were manufactured.

Treaded Racing tires and street tires of the era have distinctly different tread patterns. It's not easy to describe, but real racing tires had a lower void ratio and no siping. The void ratio (for dry tires) decreased steadily through the sixties until it reached zero (slicks) by the end of the decade. Real racing tires used different sizing conventions beginning in about 1965, so that's another clue.

There's not enough granularity in the photo of the silver car, but my hunch is that they are recaps on racing tire casings. Racing tire casing "Goodyear" lettering is typically larger than on street casings, which is a clue, and I don't recognize the tread pattern.

In the mid-seventies when I was racing an EP TR-3 I used recaps on then current Goodyear racing tire casings from an outfit called Caldwell Tire in Pasadena, CA, but I have no idea if they are still around or if you can get old racing tire casings capped anymore.

I never had any problems with the Caldwell slicks, but they were slightly slower than new Goodyear slicks. When you're on a tight budget you have to make some compromises.
