Beautiful shots! With a crystal clear, crisp, sunny morning and 8 degrees with snow capping the 13,000' peaks nearby, I think I will. Won't have to worry about overheating today! Happy New Year and Happy Trails on the next big adventure.

Hi, l I would like to unofficially , officially announce

" The Car is packed and Europe awaits "


I will spend the next month or so researching and planning a ride around Europe. If I can make it work, budget , transportation and lodging wise, at the end of that time, I will book transport for my car.

I am leaning towards late August to send car and start trip on Sept 1, 2010. I hope to spend about 4 to 5 weeks on the road.

I know it is crazy, but having put almost 3,000 miles on my car since coming home , it seems that I am not done driving yet.

I will start a new thread soon, but will use this one for a while to gather information. If you have friends abroad and they would like a visit from a wayward corvette guy, let me know.

If you are abroad and are a member of a Corvette Club , or have a Corvette and would like me to stop by........

Ok....get ready for this. It's not the cost that will be a issue, it's the time. Well cost is always a issue, but........

I sent our '63 coupe to Austria last March. From the day it left here in FL it took 5 weeks to get to the final destination in Graz. What happens is this. It goes to the port, in this case Miami. It rests there until enough cars to fill a 6 car container. Once filled, it waits for the ship to arrive, unload, then load. I was told this process is about 2-3 weeks time. Then about a week or two to get to Europe. From there it had to go about 1000 miles to Graz.

The cost was about $1,500.00 USD. Caveat.....don't know what next years costs will be with fuel surcharges, etc.

In February I will be doing it again for a friend. His car will take about the same time, this time going out of Jacksonville, end the trip in Norway.

If you need to talk to someone who can give you a better idea of time and cost, although here in FL, call.....

Another issue.....insurance. Make sure your present insurer will cover your storage, transport, as well as your trip. If you have Hagerty, here's the guy you need. He's been a great help to me with my recent activity with coverage. (sorry about the format i just did a copy/paste from a email)

Also, keep in mind Europe fuel cost is about 2-3 times US costs. It's about $9-$10 a gallon there now.

Hi Jack - in that case the European Chapters of the NCRS would be happy to provide input and help where needed.

We have shipped many cars from the US to Europe by the way and I would take 4 weeks to have it shipped. My experience is that it can take some time in the US before you will have it on a ship - sometimes even weeks, and unloading will also take a week or so (if you are unlucky and your container was the first to go on a ship). Europe in August (Western and Nothern) and September (around the Mediterranean Sea) is perfect.

Yes I agree.....the thread has really tested the length parameters. Because some replies, like these most recent ones, are buried inside earlier replies, it's now testing the "More Replies below the Current depth" limits.

If you open the thread at the top, these recent posts are deep inside. I had trouble finding where yesterdays posts were.

It certainly is a great thread though.
