On a 1975 Vette the M21 is the 4-speed close-ratio trans that was offered on L-82 ONLY. M-20 was the standard 4-speed and M40 was the turbo-hydra-matic auto trans offered as an option.

As far as I recall, the M-20 was standard on both the L-48 & L-82. The M-21 close ratio was ONLY an option for the L-82 engine.

Re: '75 Vette 4 speed transmissions
I believe that your car should have a Borg-Warner trans in it. Chevy started using them in Corvette's beginning in mid-late 1974. Muncie 4-speeds are used in 1973 & 1974 Vette's. If in fact you do have a B-W 4-speed in your car the production code will be stamped into the main case on the driver's-side flange adjacent to where the tail housing attaches (much easeier than get to the tank sticker, if the sticker is even there). A Muncie trans use's a steel tag attached to one of the side cover bolts with it's production info. on it.

Re: '75 Vette 4 speed transmissions
Martin is correct, the ST-10 was used in 75's but carried the M codes used with the earlier Muncies. The 68? started with the VIN stamped in them along with prefix code to denote the ratio. I would have to go back and look this up to confirm the year and coding but you can find it easy enough online.
If the trans is out of the car the input grooves also will indicate WR or CR.
The ST-10's have a better 1st gear as well to run lower numerical gears and aid in fuel economy (didn't help all that much)
Here's the BW ST-10 M20 from my 75. Good luck I like the base 75 coupe a lot, just purchased a very nice original one today in fact.
