When the trunk is open on my '60 many people think the power top (I don't have the cover installed) is nitrous (sp?). Don H.

        Re: Comments about YOUR car!!!

My GF and I were at a fairly large show a couple of years back with my bone stock restored '62 327/300 (Topflight). One of the two "Corvette judges" who came by asks me what motor, and if it was original? I answer yes it has the original 327 300 HP in it. He then says that that can't be possible, because you couldn't get a 327 in a '62 Corvette! I politely explain that '62 was the first year for the 327, and that in fact all '62 Corvettes were originally delivered with 327's in them etc... He then says again that no, he doesn't think so, that he's quite sure that the 327 was not available in the '62 Corvette... We went back and forth a bit, I told him that I had documentation in the trunk if he would like to see it, eventually he walks away obviously unconvinced. It just wasn't worth going to war over it on such a nice sunny afternoon, needless to say I didn't win a trophy that day.

          Re: Comments about YOUR car!!!

I guess one of the best comments I ever got on my 63 was in a Route 66 show in Berwyn, Illinois - and I wasn't even by the car when it was said/judged by several Bloomington Gold Corvette judges. Mind you, the competition was fierce as there were many outstanding Vettes there all thrown into about 3 classes 1953 thru 2001. I didn't expect any recognition at all, but stuck around to see who did collect the trophy's. They announced 3rd in class, then 2nd, and finally "Best In Class". Low and behold, they called my name! I was floored, but had to understand these people had a lot of appreciation for an original (one repaint) car as it was over the other B.G. and T.F. specimens in the field. I treasure that Trophy above all the others I have because I know it was recognition for the original character of this brand we all hold dear. An appreciation of my short story on the side window describing the highlights of my ownership from delivery to present, and of the rest the car speaks for itself.

Duke, if the others are not interested, let it be known that I am always interested in hearing the funny stories about what the "unwashed masses" have to say about our cars, Corvettes and the other ones!

It was the Summer of '65 and I was working at Roger's Mobil Service on a Saturday night. I usually parked the '57 out front so I could keep an eye on it. A guy about 30 and his young son came in so as I filled his tank, checked fluids and cleaned the windshield he asked if that was my car and if they could look at it. As he and his son walked around the car the boy asked his dad what kind of car it was. The dad stumbled a bit, looked at the side cove and said "this is a Fuel Injection".

I know an NCRS member who owned a Cosworth Vega until the storage facility burned to the ground. Car guys being car guys, I wouldn't rule out other NCRS members owning Corvettes and CVs -- just as there are several of us who own old (as in the '30s) Cadillacs.

My brother and I were at a large car cruise (400 cars ) about a month ago . We both have Corvettes, he has a 61 and I have a 66 . They had blocked off the entire main street and had all the cars parked . We were standing together when a guy walked up to us and said " these are the 2 best cars here and that is #1 and this one is #2 " pointing out my brothers car as #1 .
I turned to my brother and said " he dosen't know much about Corvettes does he"
                  We had a good laugh

Deep down you guys really do appreciate all the attention your car receives or you would have a Honda Civic, which I understand is also fuel injected. Jim

Trailering my friend's 66 convertible to our NCRS Chapter meet I had to stop for gas in my truck. A guy walks up to the back of it, looks at it and says... "Is that one of those split window Corvettes?"

                          Um, no.

Whenever I tell people I have a 71 and a 72, they frequently ask "Is that one of those Stingrays (Sting Rays?)?" What do you say - are they thinking of a midyear "Sting Ray" or a 69 and up Stingray?!? I've not yet figured out a clever reply. I just say Yes and move on.

One of the comments I hear is people always ask "what size motor?", followed closely by "how much horsepower?". With the 64 I will always say, "well its only the 300 horse car", to which most reply....."yeah but in a 2000 lb car, that is MORE than enough horsepower!"

For some reason most non Vette owners think these cars, just because they are glass, only weigh a couple thousand lbs. I get that comment on a fairly regular basis. That's ok, they are just enjoying being a part of the fun. It's all good.

A friend and I were trailering his L-88 AP car to MIS and stopped for gas in the truck. A teenage boy walked around the Corvette checking it out very closely then walked up to Phil and asked if he was taking it to Indianapolis for the Nationals. Phil just said "no".
