    Comments about YOUR car!!!

Let's see if you can beat a comment made about my car. We all need a chuckle from time to time.

I was displaying my restored 63 SWC fuelie at a show. As I was sitting near the car, two guys approached from the rear. One was obviously a Corvette novice but his friend was the expert as I heard him exclaim "this is a beautiful 63 split window coupe. It's very rare." As they walked down the side of the car he pointed out some neat features on the interior. He then hesitated while looking into the engine compartment. He started shaking his head and turned to his friend and said " I can't believe someone would take such a beautiful car and ruin it by putting a turbo charger on it!"

I nearly fell out of my chair.

Well a friend of mine just picked up his SWC from the Rotterdam harbour (After exporting the car from the States). He putted the car on a open trailer and when he stopped at a gas station a 'car expert' walked by stating: "Well that is a nice Jaguar..."

We just stood there and shook our heads...

We were sitting next to a 1967 327/300 Corvette on the show field when a gentleman in a boldly striped shirt, paisley tie, and hounds tooth sports jacket, suspenders and moustache exclaimed: "Well, looky here, this here's one of them there rare 1967 small block Corvettes."

Ironically, when I had our 63 coupe on a U-haul a few years ago coming home from VA I stopped at a gas station. The rig was parked at the far end of the station with the view being the side view of the car.

The guy at the counter said, wow, is that a XKE coupe?

I said, noooooo, it's a 63 Corvette coupe. As I was walking out the door, I looked quickly at the car, and you know what.......it actually did resemble some slight body features of the series 3 V12 E-type 2+2. We own a 72 E-type and the profiles at a sizable distance are in fact somewhat similar.

I'll try to dig up a few photos to see if it's just me and the clerk, or ?

I was at a local cruise night with my 63 coupe when someone commented that it was too bad GM made the T-tops so small. I thought they were talking about the back window until I realized both doors were open at the time and the roof does sort of resemble a T-roof with the inserts removed.
Anyone remember back around the 80's when F-F-F-Ford was extolling the virtues of these "Aircraft style" doors on their new cars?

I've had several people tell me they prefer the steel bodied Corvettes!

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard the same story at a cruise in: "I used to have one just like this only it was such and such color, but, you know, got married and then the family came and I had to sell it and get a family car." Then when I tell them that I had mine before I married and my wife has been the one who would not let me sell it no matter how "in need" we were. She knew the story of the car well and considered it a member of our family. This is ironic since she has only rode in it once or twice, and won't go to cruise ins with me in it. All in all, I guess I just married well. We each have our own things and we respect each other's things. That's probably why we are 45 years married and counting.

I'm happy to provide these many people with a connection to their pasts, but "no, you can't sit in it and don't touch!"

I don't think I've ever been to a show where there wasn't a comment made about metal Corvettes.

The comment my wife and I laugh about is. A guy and his girl friend was looking at our 67 coupe and he was telling her all about the options on it and how neat the car is then he said. Ya know if they would have just ordered that "Split Window Option" this car would have it all.

Not to laugh at the 'metal body' Corvette assertions!

The dual rotor, ****el engine powered XP-987 with its hand built STEEL Pinnifarina body is alive and well at Claremont Corvette outside London, England cared for by UK Chapter Judging Chairman, Tom Falconer...

Interesting! Apparently the DB's cuss word editor doesn't like the word "W-a-n-k-e-l"...

It is an English expression. I'm not sure about the ending in "l" but there are variations. Surely (Can I call you Surely? ) you have heard it during your visits to Jolly old England.

It doesn't like "w-a-n-k" since it left the "el" on your first post, and it wouldn't let me write it without the hyphens! LOL Is this a new curse word I'm unware of, I hope?

For years showing my 55 I get
1 why did you add fins to the rear fenders
                              2 You added a V8
3 you took the door handles off
4 you installed wires over the headlights
5 why did you change the color , they never had copper
6 do you have the original hard top for it.

99% of people say it's nice looking 54
I spend a lot of time telling them GM did make a 1955 Corvette but it looks like a 54.
