I would like to built or adapt an air cleaner air box for my road race FI 64 car. I'm thinking i could use one of those air boxes that are rectangular and have a flat paper air filter in them. i'd like the inlet and outlet to be 90 degress apart but on the same plane. As always with race cars bigger is better. Any ieas about an OEM filter box i could adapt to my needs ? Jerry

Re: FI racing air cleaner
I did race it it Portland last week. it was disapointingly low on power. Not nearly what the dual plane produced. i've got a problem with air inlet restriction in the air cleaner I used. i may also have a problem with nozzel orifices being too small. I'd like to use the stock system but it's hard to find and god awaful expensive. A rectangular box with a flat filter will work if i can find one thats about 12 inches long and 10 inches wide by 6 inches deep.- Top

Re: FI racing air cleaner
i would put the duct work thru the fire wall and put a large air filter inside the cabin. this is the way we did our dirt racecar to keep the filters clean. since your corvette is a open cockpit the inlet air should be close to ambient- Top

Re: FI racing air cleaner
OOPS just remembered that the air intake is on the drivers side so this will not work.- Top

Re: FI racing air cleaner
You'll see a dyno test in the next issue of The Corvette Restorer where a '67 327 lost power without the air cleaner relative to the OE air cleaner and a cellulose element.

Re: FI racing air cleaner
If I can find an air box with a rectangular filter that will fit under my hood do you have any idea what area of filtration will move 700CFM. ie is it a 120 square inches or 150 or??
It really chaps me to think about spending nearly $3000 for a Podel repop.- Top
