Guys, at this point my 265 engine and 3 speed transmission are now in the chassis of my '56. I am ready to install the exhaust system and am starting with the exhaust manifolds. I purchased new manifolds as well as new bolts. The bolts I received appear to have the correct marking on the heads. They have a black shiny finish on them. Is this correct? There is nothing in the '56 & '57 JM that I can find covering this. Thanks in advance! Brooks Glover (2141)

The bolts were originally black phosphate-finished. I would not call this finish "shiny". I would call it a "chalk-board" appearing finish that varied from a medium gray to a very dark gray. A shiny black finish is usually black oxide. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Finish on Exhaust Manifold Bolts
Roy and Joe, thanks for your replies to my post. After washing the bolts with solvent, they seem to have the finish that Joe describes. I will use them with the finish as purchased. Now I can get one step closer to getting the engine running. Thanks!! Brooks Glover (2141)- Top
