One more thing .... (if you need the complete door)

The door edge stainless trim will likely be more difficult to find than the door itself - and more expensive as well.

Re: 63 Coupe Left Door Part # ?

Back when I was looking for a left door for my 63 coupe, I was planning to modify a 64 door to accept the stainless trim. It looked like about all that would be needed was to cut a slit at the top where the stainless was inserted and drill the attaching screw holes. Fortunately, I found a correct 63 door before trying the mods.

        Joe -

Assemblies for Service were commonly made on overtime on Saturdays when the plant wasn't scheduled for production, or on Sundays when Saturday overtime was scheduled. Carpenters usually had to make pallets/boxes for assemblies going to Service, as there were no shipping racks in the system for assemblies (like doors) that were built up in the plant from many detail parts.

Photos below show bond being applied to the edge of the coupe door inner panel in the final bonding fixture, the fixture being closed with the door outer panel in the swinging side of the fixture, and the raw door being hung on the body.

Thanks. I figured it almost had to be St. Louis because I cannot imagine that they would have had the proper jigs and tooling anywhere else to do the assembly. However, we usually don't think of St. Louis as a manufacturing source for SERVICE parts.

            Joe -

Service doors could also have been made at A.O. Smith - they had exactly the same door assembly fixtures and tooling that St. Louis had. However, they most likely were sourced from St. Louis - I recall Service doors being boxed-up at St. Louis in 1967.
