Terry, what is the most effective method of protecting the gold wash finish on Wittek hose clamps? Clear polyurethane?
I did find three Wittek #10s.

I have no idea how to protect it -- that is why we need a microscopic examination to find any even on original clamps. Remember it was only intended to last until the clamp was assembled to the car. After that the color served no purpose.

The 1970-1972 JG doesn't go into detail about the numbers/usage on the SAE Type D side screw clamps except the DCMs. A friend in Austria used #7 Witteks on his 1970 Corvette by-pass hose because #39s were too large. A responder here said that Wittek #10s are correct for 1970 Corvette water pump by-pass hoses. I found three #10s that are gold in color.
