    1970 by-pass hose clamps

Dilemma: On the water pump by-pass hose there are two Wittek side screw clamps. The 1970-1972 JG isn't specific about which size is recommended or seen the most. The Wittek #39 seems to be the accepted standard but I am told #7 fits better. I have found two 39s with font differences am lead to believe that the smaller font is correct.
Can someone give me some help on this?

    Thanks,
    Scott Sims

    Originals were size 10.

      Makes sense as I am told a 7 works better than 39 but I don't think I have ever seen a 10.

Thanks, Mark. I love photographic visuals. Now my quest is to find a pair like those in the photos. And all this time I spent looking for original 39s.

You think you spent time looking for 39s -- you life is just beginning.

Terry, I do look forward to your replies. When the Texas Chapter meets return to Waco in 2011 will I get to visit with you again?

My absence from Killeen had nothing to do with the location. I always have to juggle my teaching responsibilities with the regionals that fall during the school year. Of course if I can't make all of them, those farthest away generally will get the boot. Had the 2009 Texas Regional been in Waco my plans would have been the same.

I am still working on this year's regionals. New Mexico is still up in the air -- bad pun given the balloon festival following the meet. Anyway, Fall of next year seems very far away.

I have a friend, Johnny Lewis, who owns a hot air balloon firm in Santa Fe. Web site is www.santafeballoons.com. Maybe Terry would like to take an eye-opening trip. May not be the only thing that opens.

                      Terry,
Here's hoping you advance Albuquerque to the top of the list. If you want to drive with us on the Texas Chapter Road Tour to Albuquerque (27-30 Sept), my '64 is available. Sorry pardner, but the '09 (with A/C) is already reserved. I'm getting soft in my old age.
                      Best regards,

I don't mean to belabor the discussion about water pump by-pass hose clamps and other similar side scew clamps but are reproductions acceptable as installed? I am including a photo of two Wittek side screw 39 clamps. The upper one has a smaller 39 than the lower one. There also seems to be other subtle differences. Is the top one original and the lower one a reproduction?

I did a balloon ride back at Steamboat. We all enjoyed it, especially the Champagne breakfast at the end.

If I go, I will drive the Z06, and might try to figure out how to join you guys. I have about given up on flying. Way too much BS in that mode of travel now days.

Terry, what is the most effective method of protecting the gold wash finish on Wittek hose clamps? Clear polyurethane?
I did find three Wittek #10s.

                              Thanks,
