on my 66 Chevelle with a 3139 Holley carb on the front bowl were the fuel line nut screws in started to leak fuel. I could not tighten up the nut due to the threads striping out. with a stroke of luck my dad had a spare Holley laying around so I swapped out the front bowl and the components. and after start up fuel was leaking from the side were the transfer tube comes in. on the back bowl my restore used a epoxy to help seal it along with the front bowl I replaced. in a quick attempt to fix it I used a professional grade sealant made by Peratex. that held up for a 30 mile trip to a car show. but I would like to fix this the correct way. did I mess up a O-ring causing it leak? and would anyone know what type of epoxy I could use. and i miss placed the number to my carb restore. thanks for all of your help

Re: Holley carb front bowl leaking. epoxy?
About 4 years ago, Holley sold me both float bowl assemblies, adjusted and ready to run, and a rebuild kit, for under $200, for a 1966, 350h.p. It took a few weeks because they said they had to make some of the parts.- Top

Re: Holley carb front bowl leaking. epoxy?
My one question is why would fuel be running out the side. Is there a "O"- ring that I messed up when I put it back together? also I think the my carb rebuilder used the epoxy as a back up. he restored two carbs for my dad and I and both have the epoxy. i want to fix this the correct way.- Top

Re: Holley carb front bowl leaking. epoxy?
if you must use epoxy on any carb and since most all gasoline contain ethanol i would use this epoxy which is E-85 proof. http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&ct=clnk&gl=us i would still not use it where there is fuel pressure present- Top

Re: Holley carb front bowl leaking. epoxy?
Keith,
Many restorers use a dab of epoxy at the locations shown on your picture. You had me thinking the epoxy is where the transfer tube and O ring goes into the side of the float bowl.
Many times if the float bowl is removed and the transfer tube O ring is exposed to air outside of the small bore it will leak.- Top

Re: Holley carb front bowl leaking. epoxy?
A guy many NCRS people recommended for carb rebuilds ads this daub of epoxy as a safety measure to prevent fuel leak - fires because that design was flawed from Holley. And is probably why these carbs are so hard to find today.
Yes, does not pass NCRS, can't be that much of a deduction right?- Top
